Can anyone recommend a good transmission shop in the Dayton, OH area? I'm going to be crunched for time and need to either 1) Rebuild the TH400 in my Sport Wagon, or 2) Swap out the tailshafts (short to medium) on another TH400 I have that's already been rebuilt. I need to get it done next week within a day or two....how long does it usually take a shop to rebuild a tranny???

I'm not opposed to buying an already set-up street/strip tranny either, if the price isn't too bad. If anyone knows any good shops around there, let me know! Or even in the surrounding area (within 2 hrs or so). Thanks!

Andy, I went to Jeff Russell in Liberty In. (near Brookville, IN.) to get my Wagon's posi installed, he does nice work and is reasonable.

    Andy,

I have a core TH400 with a the longer tailshaft on it. If you need it and can pick it up, your welcome to it. Just let me know.

Sweet! You're in Beavercreek too eh? That's where the car is at and where my parents live and I'll be there next week! I'm guessing your long tail core needs a rebuild as well? In any case, it would probably help out a lot, cause then I could just drop off my rebuilt short tail tranny and your longtail at a tranny shop and have them combine the two. What was that TH400 originally from? I've heard there's 3 different tailshafts, Skylarks have the short one, and Sport Wagons have the medium one?? It'll be going into my 69 Sport Wagon. Oh man, that'd be cool if I could work it like that cause then the Wagon would only be down for half a day swapping out trannies instead of a few days...thanks!

Have you raced your Buicks at Kilcare? Is that where the picture in your avatar was taken? I raced my wagon there last summer once and even with a slipping tranny as well as a slippery track on a hot day, I still posted a personal best 14.14@99mph! Don't know if I want to chance breaking something going to the races again while I'm home, the car has to make it all the way to Texas on June 28th! But the temptation might be unbearable, especially if there's other Buicks there too ;)

    Sounds good Andy,

I live in Woodhaven, which is kinda behind East Gate Ford and Woodhaven pool. It's kinda funny, but I really don't race at Kil-Kare to often. I haven't even been there yet this year. Might race there on the 25th.

I was under the impression that there were only 2 tailshaft lengths. I for sure don't know everything though. I'll measure mine tonight.

Either way your welcome to this tranny and we'll meet up while your back. I'll send you a PM with my phone #.

    Andy,
Just where in Texas are you going? Jim Burek is in El Paso and he can probably help you with all your future needs. Can I assume you're coming to San Antonio or Del Rio? Let me know, I've lived in both places :)

Shayne......Wow, your place is only about 2 or 3 miles from my parents house where I'll be at! They're just off of Shakertown Road back behind East Gate Ford...can't remember the name of the housing development though. I'll see you next week!

goof.....I'll be moving to Abilene, TX....I used to live in San Antonio as well and actually probably will be visiting down there fairly often cause I like River City Raceway and Abilene only has a 1/8th mile track  I've done business with Jim before and I'm sure I'll be doing it again, I just wish El Paso wasn't so far from everywhere.....just like Abilene is too I guess :beer

    Later!

I like Hendricks off of 201 between the base and Huber Heights. They did my 4T65E HD for me, did a good job. Got to meet up if you are on the base.
