I hate eBay. I'm not a good "sniper" so I haven't been able to actually win any auctions but I'm looking for some caps for around $40(?) for a driver. My wheels are the 14" kind if that matters.

Do these things get stolen a lot? Is there any way to secure them so people just don't walk off with 'em?

    Thanks.

Brian, the reproductions from Mitch Romanowski incorporate an anti-theft mounting system, but nothing from the factory does that, and I don't know how you would do so with factory caps. 14" and 15" use the same size caps for your 70.

That's good to know thanks. I talked to Mitch and he seems like a cool guy. I'm just not sure I want to spend over $100 on caps especially when I'm not sure I'll be keeping these wheels for the long-term. 14s look too tiny to me, especially on this car.

    Thanks Dave.

Brian, the newer style caps are not too hard to find for sale, with the smooth chrome body. They are not right for a 70, but they are fairly common and fit your rims. I understand the issue with cost for new ones, just depends on what you are putting them on, as far as being worth the price. I paid 150 for my set a couple years ago, and they sure are nice.

    Hey Brian,
I stumbled onto your posting about caps for your Bu. I have some ribbed caps & can make up a set for you. As a tool & diemaker, I've made up tooling to drill & tap # 6-32 scr. holes on same location as the pot metal heads that hold the retainer on. The retainer and medallion can be switched, or replace as preferred. Also, added a 2 pc. anti-theft system held on with 2 flat hd. 6-32 screws. Can give you 4 caps for 75 bucks + ship. The caps will have a few pits & the medallions faded etc. Seems you want to spend low $. can give you tri-shields or birds. New medallions are available if you wanted to replace later. I have a few very nice ones also. Nice or new ribbed caps are more than twice this cost.
The smoothies can be found for around $10 at swap meets, but the ribbed type are very scarce.

    Ron,

Not to hijack this thread, but I'd be interested in real nice set. I have some that need to be restored, 4 Tri-Sheild and 4 with Lark emblems. I think that they are restorable. Parital trade or something?

    Thanks,

    Rich

    Hi Rich,
I take it you have 8 ribbed caps with the metal retainer clips on the back.
What shape are they in? My main cocern is pits and retainer condition.
Are they all something you would put on your car if they had decent medallions?
If they are decent, I will remove the clip & medallion, drill & tap 4 of the caps for you in trade for the other 4 caps. You can buy new tri-shield or bird medallions and put them together as you please.
I will sell you the anti-theft pcs. for $10.00 ea. including all the stainless screws you need. The anti-theft pcs. are cheap ins. because caps have a way of disappearing especially if some of the prongs are missing or bent.
Figure 10 bucks for shipping caps back to you.
