Eh - I'm not good enough to beat a machine. I've downloaded Winboard for Windows and Linux, though. Pretty good, though not flashy.

never rated over 1400 when i was playing USCF and that was 10+ years ago. plus, i hate those stylized pieces.

it is kind of interesting to 'see' what the computer is thinking though.

I cant see the black pieces

I tried this a few weeks ago, and I was past the point where machines usually crush me, but I can't see the black pieces on my monitor when they are on black squares.

The chess may be good, but the graphics are poor.

    I've got 2 wins
    I've got 2 draws . . .
. . . but no comment about how many times it has kicked my butt. Computers are merciless -- they don't make mistakes and will find yours in a nano-second.

I find the thinking lines to be a major distraction. My wins have come when I have a chessboard beside the computer so I can see the board while then thinking lines obscure everything.

    Try:
    1. P-Q4 P-Q4
    2. P-QB4 . . .

it will always (so far) take the gambit and then try to defend the pawn with the QB . . . good luck

I don't suppose it will fall for the two move check mate will it? Hard to get anyone to fall for that one anymore. 4 moves sometimes, but nobody falls for two very often. Won quite a bit of money on that one when someone mixes alcohol and chess and thinks 4 moves (per side) is the quickest way to check mate and that it can't be done in two moves (per side).
