    Hi All,

I was wondering where I could find a good set of domed topped pistons for my Stage 1 for not too crazy of a price. Was Hoping to have over 11:1 compression.

    Thanks,

    Gerald

there is no domed pistons for BBB i dont think they work with BBB, you run flat tops, and those must be notched for bigger cams, you have to shave the block and or heads, boreing the block will add some, and can use thinner gaskets in some application, to get more commpression. BUT I COULD BE WRONG??

Well what pistons do you recommend to get my compression up???

Flat tops will give you anywhere from around the upper side of 10 with an undecked block and 72cc heads, up to 12.75 or more with 64cc heads and setting the pistons at deck height.
Check out paeenterprises or Finishline motorsports for wiseco flat tops with 7cc valve reliefs.

Who would be the best people to get those pistons from Steve?? Have too be a good piston and a good price. Can't be to outrageous.

I bought my wiseco's (the dished ones) from Geof at finishline motorsports.

Great guy to deal with. I'm sure he has the flat tops. They're around $575 (don't quote me on that, but close) but they come with rings and pins. Very nice stuff.

if you just want to raise your commpression zero deck your block, but you could have cam clearence problems then,i dont think you can buy a piston that will give you more then 10 to 1 without doing the mods i suggested??

flat tops will get you 11:1 with 68cc heads @ .040" in the hole (+.038 felpro gasket). It would be better to deck the block like you said, but I wouldn't say it's a requirement. It all depends on how many cc's the heads are.

How do I check the cc's on the head???

A cc kit is used. The one I have seen is a piece of similar material to plexi-glass. It is sealed to the undersized of the head surface with a small hole over the combustion chambers. With valves, and spark plugs installed, you count how many cc's it takes of liquid to fill the combustion chambers in the head using the small hole to pour it through (have seen a child's medication dropper used). Smooth all chambers and match all and this is called CC'ing the heads. It all is more precise than I have written here, but these are the basics.

I decided to go ahead and buy the falt top wiseco pistons for my engine. I was wondering if anyone could give me an estimate of what HP #'s to expect don't want to be on the dyno and be dissappointed. I'm running a Stage 1 engine, the TA 413 cam, valve springs to match, I'm getting the heads ported and the bowls and Chambers really worked, 3 angle valve job, the wiseco flat top pistons, I'll be using the stock q-jet and intake until the TA SPX is released, K&N Air assembly, long tube headers with 3" exhaust with an X-pipe 40 super series flowmaster mufflers with dumps before rear axle. Thanks for any ideas not really sure of what I am to expect.

    Gerald,
You do realize that you're going to have to run race gas in this, right?
If you're planning on building a street-strip type of setup, you would be better off going with the dished wisecos and setting them at .005 in the hole for about 10- 10.4:1 compression. That way you could still run it on pump premium.

Are you sure I'll need race fuel to run those flat tops I thought anything under 12.5:1 was good on regular octane.

    Pretty darn sure...
To run 92 octane in an iron-headed Buick, you need 10.25 or lower. The closer to that 10.25:1 you get, you need to have the piston tight to the head with a dish to get good quench to avoid detonation. The timing and jetting have to be right on too. You might be able to push it a little higher than that, but it would be risky.
If you want to use that 413 cam, the favorite combination you will often hear of is a 22-25cc dished piston set at 0 deck to .005" in the hole for around 10-10.25:1. With a good set of ported iron heads, you should get 500 hp on pump gas.

I have the stock pistons in the engine now they have a 1/4 " dish what would you recommend me to do to the heads or block to get the compression up to 10:1??? I really don't want to pay for race fuel for a daily summer driver might be a bit expensive. Thanks Gerald

    What year block and heads?

Maybe 73 I was told it was a 70. I'm not sure I think the block may be a 73 and the heads might be off a 70. Not entirely sure though.
