I just replaced the upper controll arm bushings in the diff housing on my 65 GS.
To install the new ones , I took a 8'' piece of 5/8 all thread, a 2''x2'' iron pipe nipple, 4 - thick 2''washers, 1 crank pully washer, and 2 5/8 nuts. first, I put the new bushing in the deep freeze for a couple hours. Then,
I greased the bore of the diff housing. Next I put the nut on one end of the all thread, withe the thick crank washer followed by 2 2'' washers, next the pipe nipple, Then thru the bushing bore with the all thread, into the center hole of the cold new bushing , topped with 2 thick 2'' washers and finally the 5/8 nut. [Lord, I hope this make some sense.]
Next, I checked the line up and tightend the whole thing up snug. Then I pulled the new bushing in to the line on the bushing.
The whole thing cost about 4 bucks.

    Doc:

I think I understand. Any possibility we could get a pic? I'll be changing the bushing this summer when I install the new rear end in my car.

    Thanks for the help!

Paul, I will try to send a pic. but I am so computer dumb I dont know if I can do it or not. Just read it real close and may be make a drawing. The thing worked real good. When I was actually pulling the bushing in I used a gear wrench to do it with. You just have to be sure that the pipe nipple is centered over the bore.

I think I get the idea, and it sounds like a good one. Very clever.
