howdy! my ebay car arrived couple of weeks ago and i've got her all shined up. found my way to v-8 via yardley's (highly informative) website, as I kept my options open for a broad variety of cars in my hunt for "the perfect ride". when I started seriously looking, I had no particular affinity for Buicks, but kept being drawn to them for some reason... at any rate, I'm now the proud owner of a '68 GS400 with console shift. tight engine, decent body, including passenger rear mirror(!). Everything appears stock, with the exception of a Poston 112 cam in a recent rebuild. Nice dynomax duals. Don't know much history on the car, but it's obviously been well cared for. Let's see if I can get a driveway shot to post. I'll try to get more pictures up if anyone is interested, but I'm fumbling around with photoshop now. great board!
thanks for the welcome! I don't believe the previous owner is a member, though never thought to ask. I found the car on ebay and had it transported from oregon to houston. i see that the photo turned out pretty cheesy. I'll fool around with p-shop some more this weekend and try to get some better shots.
Welcome Dewey, we need all the 68-69 GS admirerers we can get! I'd like to see more pictures. Congrats on the find!
Congrats Dewey - Fine lookin' '68 That right side mirror is a pretty rare piece - ALOT of board members are looking for one. Watch out - Once you own one Buick, other ones seem to find you and follow you home :Brow:
at long last... I have something that someone else covets! believe me, it was purely an accident as I didn't realize how few of the right hand mirrors are out there until I began some really focused trolling of the threads as I waited on the car to arrive. Along those lines, is there any source for statistics regarding how many vehicles were produced with the various options, such as bench vs. buckets, floor vs. column shift, various trim options, etc.? learning all sorts of life skills here; smilies, photoshop (still working on chopping some additional photos down to size). thanks again for the welcome!
Hey, Dewey. Welcome to the world of Buick nuts from another Houstonian. You may want to email Steve Campbell at scampbell729@houston.rr.com Steve is kind enough to be the communications coordinator, for lack of a better term, for the GS portion of the Houston Buick Club. Tell him I said HI and ask him to add you to the list. Fun group- this year was chili at Lawrence Conley's shop and club bash racin' most months. Look forward to meeting you.
thanks, Jack! I will follow up on that one. How many GS'ers are in Houston? Met a Buick Club guy at the cruise night a couple of weeks ago at hwy6 and IH10, but no GS's other than mine. by the way, I've wondered about your avatar. Is that a Longhorn football player carrying the flag behind the mosquito truck?p I look forward to meeting you and other enthusiasts. I certainly have a lot to learn.
under the hood. note the highly desirable FrigiKing reciprocating compressor. well, ya gotta have a/c in houston.
Hey Dewey. There are about a 12-15 GS's around, that I know of. Haven't been to the Hwy 6 @ I10 deal in quite a while. We may run by early Sat. evening, as I hear it's better now than the time I went. Mine is a white, w/ black top '70 GS 455. Won't stay long since I do want to watch my Horns play Tech. Which leads me to the avatar. I couldn't get it work large enough to be clear- that's Roy Williams leading the Horns out of the stadium tunnel in Austin at the start of last spring's Orange & white game. Let me know if you start thinking about any work on your car- there is a good Buick motor builder in NW Houston and at least 2 fine trans shops- one NW and the other in Richmond/Rosenberg. Steve will email you the membership list w/email addresses and ph #'s, but you can reach me at freeman_jm@willis.com Maybe we'll see you Sat.
Hey Jack! I figured it had to be some kind of Longhorn deal. Couldn't resist. Unfortunately, my boys were on the wrong end of the 0-77 game last week so I gotta get my grins wherever I can find them this season.:ball: Won't be able to make the cruise this week. Taking my younger girl on her first indian princess campout! I will drop a note to you and Steve. Hope to see y'all one of these days.
Hope you didn't get rained out and you guys had a good time. I went buy about 5:30 and very few cars there. Probably doesn't pickup until 6:30 or so. Headed back to the tube and was treated to a great game, although it was much too close for me!
