Well it's my turn ! Went out last night to go to best Buy and get my stereo put in after waiting for a week and the heater core leaked all over the place !:stmad: No tunes and a very wet interior in the GS .... Ok now I know Marco had this happen just lately but who has the "best" heater core and blower motor ?? "Some days your the hammer and some days your the nail " :gt: :TU:
Sorry to read this Bruce. A cheap part which costs 10x as much for labor to replace, unless you're brazen and have the tools and the space to take something like this on yourself (I have NO space to work on something like this). I never really got an answer to my 'best' heater core question, so I'll guess most of them are the same (of the four aftermarket brands I found). The one I bought of Ebay (READY-AIRE) seems to be a made by a large supplier which tells me they have some sort of quality control. I'm picking up my GS today (from Rob Chilenski at Stage1 automotive). He told me he didn't take the fender off, or the inner fender. He was able to loosen the bolts then take out the heater core from the interior. My blower motor was not replaced for this reason. Good luck, as I'll be rooting for you :TU:
A leaker...... Thanx Marco . Glad to hear yours is done ! I will call some of the local auto parts out here and put it in myself . :TU: :TU:
heater core all the heater core manufacturers are pretty much the same. the key is to have your cooling system in good shape. over time anti-freeze thats in the cooling system a long time will start eating away at the cooling system. flush your cooling system every other year and your water pump, heater core, etc. will last. when you do flush try and get the engine block bolts out, so you get out all the old anti-freeze.
Bruce, I know you're capable of installing a radio.... Why are you paying Best Bouy to install it for you?o No:  Too afraid to cut the dash yourself? :Brow:
Adam best buy had a sign .."installed by 3 or free" . It was 2:45 and they could not install it when I asked so I get a free install !:Brow: Why should I do it when the guys in the blue shirts can do it for free !!o No: Then Shirley and I will go out to eat next door with the money we did not spend .. Good money management .....:Brow: :Brow: :TU: P/S Yes I can install it but then again why... :beer
Rob told me when the car was on the lift, you can get at the heater core and extract it from underneath, not the interior. If you want to call him - 973-839-4900 Good Luck Bruce!
Gotta get lucky sometime.. Marco thanx for the news ! I will give Rob a call when I'm ready to R & R the core . I decided to put it off till the winter . Still Have not found one yet . But I did not check all my sources . Marco do you have a/c ? I do and I know a/c can make the job a little more "fun" !ou: Thanx Marco ! :TU:
Re: Gotta get lucky sometime.. Guilty as charged :Brow: I've heard the same about A/C cars. Good luck Bruce :beer
It gonna s#*+k to be me .. ou: Marco I did jack the GS tonight and took a peek . But it looks like it's gonna hurt !:gt: Thanx for trying to help out !:TU: :TU: :Brow:
heater core bruce, our shop can do your heater core if your interested. were only about 40 miles from the wisc. border. let me know, im not trying to solicit work as we have plenty to do, just trying to help out a fellow gs owner.
The heater core can be removed without removing the fender. If you look at the plastic cover over the unit under the dash, you will see a small round emboss on the lower right corner. If you drill through the center of the emboss with a 5/16 drill, you will remove the stud that is under the fender. This will allow the core to come out, and three studs are enough to hold the unit in place. I did this on my 69 this summer :beer :beer :beer :beer
John thanx I will keep that in mind .. Joe Thanx for the info I will take a look under the dash one day soon. THANX !!!!!:Brow: :TU:
