So ive been driving without an operating horn for some time now. Im getting tired of dumb @$$ people who dont know how to handle themselves on the road. I have all the wiring and horns still intact, but i put an aftermarket steering wheel and the horn has become inoperable.

is there a wireless kit where i can put a button on the column or by my feet to activate the horn? Maybe a wireless relay kit?

I still want my high beams so that switch is out of the question.

What steering wheel did you put in?

it sounds like you installed the steering wheel incorrectly or the new steering wheel has a bad horn button. Was the steering wheel new or used? The horn worked prior to the installation right?

Wiring a button under the dash wont address why the horn stopped working.

why this fixation on a wireless kit? you'll still have to hack into the factory wiring harness to get the horn working.

any decent momentary push button switch will work fine, just make sure the switch is rated for as much current/amps as your horn circuit is fused for. voltage rating will be irrelevant, i doubt you're going to find a switch rated for less than 12v anyways.

i'm assuming the aftermarket wheel doesn't have a provision for the horn?

The single wire (usually black) the conects to the horn button as a ground.

Touch the wire to a ground and the horn sounds.

Either the button (if there one) or the wheel is not grounded.

Does the steering wheel have a clear coating on it?

no it does not. guess im looking for something easy like the buttons you can get at a local shop and put it by my feet to sound off quickly.

Sure, just figure out which wire is the ground wire for the horn and wire it to a button.

just get another hi-beam switch and mount it where you want.

most off the shelf switches aren't going to be built for the dirt and getting stomped on.

i would rather push my foot on the brakes than a horn switch.

hook it to the brakes so you can brake AND honk .....EVERY time.:bla:

if you are uneasy diagnosing the real problem ...get a friend who can and fix it right. you will most likely live longer to not regret it.

well i cut them some time ago and the car has been fine. So when i "reattached" everyhting and let the car sit it didnt turn on. not even a clik or a turnover.

There was a red (hot) green and yellow wire. I didnt re connect the yellow, dont remember why its even there.

try to shift the car from park to neutral and try cranking. If it starts great.
then turn the car off. put it back into park and try to start it if it doesn't start your neutral safety switch has gone bad or is out of adjustment.

the car ran great yesterday before i put the switch in. I see that the red hot wire eventrually goes down to the starter. could i have fried the started by using a switch to the horn wire and eliminating the horn relay??

No offense to you, but it sounds like your in over your head. I would take it or tow it to a qualified mechanic and have him take a look at it for you.
