I know someone that sells Amsoil and was told about a setup that Amsoil offers. It is a special filter that you change every now and then and add a quart of new oil when you put it on. If you use this filter you never have to change your oil again. Would anyone care to 'splain to me how this works? Sounds like smoke and mirrors to me. Thought he was kidding, He says no joke!! :jd: -Mike D.

I can't do all the scientific jargon but I will say I use it in all my vechicles I have several of my fleet customers using it I can see results, benifits from using it..I have not heard the the story your saying..the program I use is, change oil and filter(amsoil filter) excellent product designed for their product, then at 18000 ks change filter, next 18000ks change oil and filter, I have been using it for more than 5 years with no engine failure and less maintenance expenses than those who are not using it...I recomend you check out their web site and find out the facts and specs to see if they impress you...pros less waste and pollution to the enviornment, less friction to moving parts, better fuel milage, less expensive, less hazzel don't have to do that job or waste a saturday when you'd rather be out crusin, cons ?? can't think of any..fatchuk

I know an engineer at HONDA in Ohio who does this (never 'changes' oil, just the filter and a 'top off), though I am not sure which brand he uses. The theory is that the oil does not break down and the filter catches all the impurities. If I could trust a filter to do this, maybe I would try it. I was working at a speed shop and our local Amsoil rep tried to get me to start running it in my Buick for the said reasons, my problem was that with dual-quads, I often have fuel in my crank case. (yes I run them a little rich at idle). He said this was no problem "the oil won't mix with the fuel." OK, but how do I get the fuel out of the crankcase before it eats the bearings? He said, "I would have to change the oil." Kind of defeats the purpose of it, doesn't it?

Synthetics are nothing new, developed during WWII, it has been used in race and performance vehicles heavily sinch the early '60s. It reduces friction and does not break down as easily with heat, but it will find the slightest leak and make it look like the Hoover Dam broke open.

I use it in several vehicles. I use the filter on our Diesel trucks along wit their oil especially made for diesels. Main reason for us using it is that we don't change oil like we need to, so this gives us a little more time in between. I also use the racing 20/50 in my 455. I stopped using it in chain saws after hearing several tell me that you get a build up on the pistons because it will not burn like conventional oils. That only holds true, of course, in 2 strokes.

Pooods, you have chainsaws that TALK? Way Cool!

    LOL, Just kidding.

Boys, from everything I've read about oil, dino and the man-made, they do indeed breakdown with time. Heck, a coil doesn't have ANY moving parts and they wear out.

As for me, synthetics and regular full oil/filter changes though I do go to 4000 - 4500 miles rather than 3000.

    Speaking from experience here....
Amsoil in both my commerial trucks, one has over 400,000 miles and still runs like a top. The other has only 78,000, both trucks see heavy heavy use.
Everything I own uses the stuff including the chain saws and weed whackers.
The one saw is now 15 years old and has been on a steady diet of Amsoil premix since it was broke in. Runs perfect. Bar and chain life has more then tripled with their chain lube. Like what was said earlier, time is also saved, since I have ( like everybody else ) 12 vehicles, plus the rest of the toys/equipment, money and time is saved. And no, I am not a Amsoil dealer, just a very satisfied customer. Then machine shop I use turned my brother and I on to the stuff a long time ago and haven't looked back. My 5 hp air compresser was the first thing I put the stuff into. Still haven't changed it ( thinking I should after all these years ) I just top it off every so often.

    Amsoil Update

    update:
Just changed the air compressor oil after over ten years of use, could have gotten another year out of it :Brow:
The first thing you notice about this oil is how much quieter the stuff makes your equipment!
To me the reduction of noise is closely related to metal to metal contact ( or lack of ) Gas mileage increase is a big plus this day and age.
The 2 stroke stuff has never let me down and I found out it has a fuel stabilzer it, so the tank and carbs never gunk up!

I have been using the Amsoil for several years now in a variety of applications, ranging from orchard tractors, high milage V-6's, and my low mileage 5.3 Chev Avalanche (and soon to be my 455 '69 special deluxe). I have been changing filters every 6 months and the oil every 12 months. Never had any kind of failure and always had the advantages of better MPG's and less time under the cars. Mr Amsoil has just released an extended use filer that waould make it 12 months for both the oil and filter. They have offered a remote multi-filter system that you take oil samples and they tell you when to change your oil, which could extend well beyond the 12 month expected use. Any way you roll the dice, the economics and time savings it offers is well worth it! :TU:

This may not sound like much but, I have averaged a 2.5 m.p.g. increase. Considering I was getting 10 m.p.g. that is a 25% improvement!

Does it still have zinc in it??? I know this is a common problem with modern oil.
