i'm sure many of you have viewed the american musclecar shootout on speedvision. I think it originally aired back in aug. I was ticked off immediatly ... all the other gm a bodies were hardtops-the buick, which did do well...was a heavier conv. I guess they had too hard a time finding a stg 1 hardtop!...If there was a thread on this then, I missed, just making an observation. Also, I sure enjoyed seeing that hemi Challenger run like crap. :blast: :blast:
Mcs I looked at it as great entertainment. Where else have we been able to see these cars flogged from the comfort of our own Lay-Z-Boys. It was supposed to be controversial.....it has always been controversial. I like the "run what you brung concept". It doesn't make me one bit embarrassed to own a 70 stage 4Spd car.....all my mopar buddies respect it, as i do their cars. That was some great company for our GS's to keep.... Looking forward to Shootout #2. John
b.s..... I certainly agree, great show-but why make the obvious weight advantage on national t.v. ... you have to wonder the motivation there o No:
i got this on DVD and i noticed they claim that all these cars were off the legendary showroom floor. some things i noticed on the DVD is the guy who owns NPD(national parts depot?) refers to 69 mustang as if its his car, he also says he wouldn't be surprised if the mustang won, during the credits they show the mustang arriving on the back of a pick up truck with a small trailer yet the rest show up in large car haulers. suspicious. they also say this is the most evenly matched test. sorry i dont think so. a loaded stage 1 convertible against a light weight stripped down 69 boss 429, evenly matched? to be really fair all the cars should be either the lowest optioned models or fully optioned models and the burnout contest was evenly matched also, of course the four speed is going to defeat the automatics. give me a stripped down stage 1 four speed and lots of room and i,ll show them the meaning of smoke show.
Well, for those of you outraged by the obvious lack of integrity in thier testing practices checj out this article: An oldy but a goody... ...OK I've got a bit of bias for it since it ranks Buicks near the top, but I can't find in invalid testing practice in it anywhere. A good all around evaluation.
I have not seen the show, but I knew that the show would be bogus. Isn't it ashame that you can't watch a decent program without being scammed? We all know with the proper car,the Buick would have been the winner. :TU:
Yea, it was a bunch of BS. All the cars had drawbacks. Stage 1 was loaded and a conv. I bleieve the LS6 had low gears. GTO was a ram-air III not IV (or something like that) Oh well, it was a load of crap, but it served its purpose, as entertainment. Just think of all the Challanger guys and how they ran that 426 Hemi! I bet the show got alot of hate mail from that episode  :spank:
