AMCAR Engines?

Has anyone used Amcar Engines out of MI? They installed a "remanufactured" SBC in our "Monster Garage Ice Racer" after Jesse James over heated the World Products Hardcore 454 (SBC w/1050 Dominator, aluminum heads, Single plane,600HP etc..) .

I was not part of the rebuild plan back in 2006 when this was done. I called Amcar (wondering where the 454 was) and spoke to a gentleman who was very helpful with info. Unfortunately, the original engine seems to have gone away and in its place now is about 225HP of SBC with a dual plane and a Rochester in its stead. Seems the person put in charge of the swap on our end just asked for a replacement without getting the 454 back!

(The truck still has its Currie rear, hi stall converter, Wilwood front brakes, independent front end, ladder bars, B&M slapstick(?) and built Turbo400. Truck was built on Monster Garage as an Ice Racing Ice Cream Truck for Cold Stone Creamery.)

The small block, though anemic in the big truck, is holding up well, started right up after 3 years in storage and passed smog better than when it was installed after some tweaking. It screams in 3rd doing about 50mph.

The reason I am asking about them is that the person offered a 1969 430ci top to bottom rebuild using a motor in his shop for $2100. Does this sound reasonable given shipping from MI to AZ? If not, can anyone recommend a builder in the Phoenix area for a mostly stock rebuild? (Might go with a 455 but we'll see)
