Ah, what the Hell, I shouldn't respond to your attack, but whatever.

First off... this is the issue I have with you Gary.. we take a simple, straight forward question from a user, that has a simple straight forward answer, and you manage to turn that into a 4 pages, at the end of which you end up throwing a temper tantrum, unless everyone agrees with you. This inevitably happens after someone calls you on your BS.. This time it just happens to be me.

Since you have arrived here, your entire focus has been to be "The Paradigm Shifter".

You giving yourself that title shows a level of conceit not often seen.. not even on the internet...

OH Messiah, show us the way.. lead us out of our evil, header wearing. 4 bbl using ways. Let us learn at your feet how to use an afterthought generic copy of a factory cam, to produce copious torque at 1/8th throttle.

    sick0021.gif

You attempt to persuade those with the misfortune of being ensnared into your web, with reams of posts, full of impressive sounding tech jargon. If anyone dares to question if you actually do any work on these issues, you slap them down with the "Everything starts with Theory and engineering" argument.

You fill the forums here with your nonsense.. snow 'em under with 1000 word posts... you have 24 replies to this thread alone.. half the time your replying to yourself.

We have a word for guys like you..

    TROLL

I would suspect that you have been kicked off a few other boards. I have had to threatened to remove you when you attack other users who won't agree with you. Who call you out on your ideas, question your real world experience.

You can call me what you like, I don't mind, I would have to respect you before I could be insulted by you.

Not much chance of that anymore.

    Have a nice day :)

Was tryin' to tell you, glad you see it for what it is now. :TU:

Unfortunately like other internet TROLLs, they like to use multiple IDs so even if and or when the G/F ID is banned, its other ID(s) will stay behind infesting the forum. :Do No:

Here is what Gary did to me the first time I met him. I had said that I have had over 500 1/4 mile runs on my 350 and at least 50 runs with a nitrous set up that involved mostly a 125 shot which had put me into the 11's which I though was pretty good after 500+ regular 1/4 mile runs plus the nitrous.

His answer to me was I only drove a 125 miles on the engine and acted like I did not put any miles on my motor. Personally I thought that was an insult. My point was running a Buick 350 for 20+ years and running up to 6 grand each and every time showed the durability of the 350. Gary saw it as only 125 mile on the engine. I would back trac my posts and prove that but I do not have that much time to play.

I put in a TA510 cam and made 395 hp from 5900-6100 and was told by Gary that this is not what to do with a 350 since I was not in the 12's I made the wrong choice with my cam according to him. Since stock guys were running close to me. The only thing I needed was a 4000 stall and some 410 gears to go with the cam. The car idled all day long in gear with this cam so I saw no problem with it. When I switched the cam out to use the Popular Mechanics cam made for the 350 by the GS club the first thing I noticed was it gave up after 5800 rpm, out of the hole was better but in the end I am not running much faster than with the 510 cam, it would at least run to 6400 rpm.

The 510 cam with the SP 3 I bet will rock.

You are right he argues with anyone that does not agree with him totally. I do not even like to post on here any more because of this crap he pulls all the time especially with his theories and all the other crap that means nothing to me. f85 olds seem to do the same thing, must be his cousin. The guy can't even post his name.

I already know he will deny anything I have said here.

I got a novel Idea Gary, go out and build your 350 with all your theories and velocities and all the other bull and prove us all wrong. :kodak:

How about a 350 race section to keep these morons in the stock section.

This simple talk about using stock manifolds turns into a theory festival. This conversation was over at the start when Jim had said what he found using the manifolds compared to headers, you will lose some power but it does not mean you can't use stock manifolds if you want to go that route. Pretty simple to me. :moonu:

I would really like Jim to do or try to do more work with the 350 which I know is hard to do given all like to do the 455. But those 350 heads coming out I hope will change that. Us 350 guys could use more race oriented projects on what to do with the motors.

That is where I am at. I have the SP3 and looking to get the Alum heads but really want to know what I should do exactly when I get the parts. Can I go to 11.1 or so on the compression with pump gas or a little race gas added like I have always done, should the heads be checked and possibly ported more, just some of the questions I would like answered and I do not want to hear it from someone that THINKS what is right I want to know what is right from the people that have been there and done that.

there is my rant and 2c for the day.

    Have Fun,
    Guy

With the clarity of a good nights sleep, and a bit of time to study what Gary has said over this thread, I must set the record straight, he never did claim 500 HP with that small cam.. that's my fault, he claimed 400HP and 500 ft lbs... I thought he said 400 to 500 HP...

I knew that 400 HP was not possible with a stock all iron engine. Because I had used that cam before, actually the next step up from the cam that the Speed Pro C586 is based on.

    http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.p...g-car-motor&highlight=big+car+alum+head+motor

Here is what we learned.. Detonation pig... Even with alum heads, zero deck, polished chambers, 9.5-1 static, and a spot on tune (had both a carb and EFI on this engine) we never could time it to optimum... it would ping, under part throttle load in the Electra, with it's 2.78 gears, and under full throttle. Even going rich with the EFI on purpose would only slightly minimize this.

I took that motor out of the car 3 years later, and ran thru it again, this timing using a 218*.050 duration cam... and then installed it in a 71 Centurion with 3 series rear gears, and it was a completely different animal. Every bit as powerful down low, or even more so, although I am sure a lot of that feel was gear and lighter vehicle weight. Detonation now is completely gone, optimum timing can be achieved.

In relation to my mistakes in this thread..

I am a busy man, and don't have hours to sit here and re-read the posts, especially the long ones.. I tend to just skim those novels. And in this case, I got it wrong..

That does not change my overall point, I just wanted to set the record straight on that.

The funny thing about his is, I have been defending Gary behind the scenes here, telling folks that he was entitled to his opinion, since the day you got here Gary. Ironic that you would turn on me, over one simple misunderstanding.

I was simply trying to inject some humor into the deal, I never meant to be mean spirited, if it came across that way, I apologize.

One thing I have learned trying to communicate on these boards since the late 90's... If you write a 20 line paragraph, or worst yet, an entire post in one paragraph, you lose about 90% of your readers. I find it hard to absorb long posts.

There is a reason that no paragraph in this post has more than 3 lines..

I may have just read the single most pointed, no-nonsense, and blunt post on this entire board. And it totally made my morning. Thank you JW. :)
And this X 10x10^34!!! The ignore feature is a brilliant tool that has saved me alot of time from wading through a quagmire of consistent waste of bandwidth. Seeing as how it's often times the "usual suspects", it's pretty effective!

I never thought of this, you can then give your judgement of the post without another post clogging up your brain taking you to an argument hmm....

Sorry Gary but you need to keep it short and sweet and stop taking things too far out of what we cannot do.

I do like to read your posts to make me think out of the box but they do get to be way too long.

Most questions have been answered for the 455 since there have been a lot of years testing this engine thru here with Jim and all the articles that were put in the GS Extra thru the GS club.

    Have Fun,
    Guy

I'd like to point out a few things that some of you may not be aware of.

This is an internet forum, which has words on it, so expect some degree of reading will be involved. If you get lost in the length of anyone's posts, you can always just skim over it or not read it altogether, or if you wish, add the username to your ignore list. Either way works fine.

I'd also like to point out here that I have done nothing wrong, and I did not start this argument, but I'm also not one to sit back and take it without redress.

This is the brunt of what everyone is whining about here. The old saying that 'it takes two (or three, or ten)'...well I'm not the only one here who does the things here that everyone is accusing me of, nor am I the only one who makes lengthy posts.

I'm also the first one to concede IF it can be shown that what I've said to be incorrect.

If you want to pick on me, at least make it legitimate reasons instead of jumping in on a fight you cannot win by yourself when you see others attacking. There are a lot of trolls here to be sure. Lots of goading going on. I'm not the bad guy here.

I've made no attacks here, I'm merely defending myself from the initial attacks I received here, and I have spoken no untruths.

I've made points in this thread that anyone could see if they were honest about it.

You all may wish to look up the word 'paradigm' if the true meaning of 'paradigm shift' or 'paradigm shifter' is evading you. A change in the way things are (or can be) done is the gist of it.

Larry uses 'The Wizard' in his, but I'm not envisioning him tossing fireballs and teleporting around while raising the dead. It's equally ridiculous to assume someone with "The Paradigm Shifter' to 'smack' of someone who wants to argue. That's quite a stretch.

Anyway, I don't want to digress.

You guys have fun ganging up on me. All it does is reflect poorly on your character.

I see this all as a big distraction tactic to lose the attention of what I tried to point out earlier in the thread.

Some of you will simply never get it (or you just don't want to see it).

Tony and I are not the same person, and this is my only account here. As bold and honest as I am, does anyone here really believe I need to go incognito to make my points? Heck, I even use my REAL NAME!...what good would another account do? C'mon guys.

    Careful with the assumptions...

He and I don't see eye to eye quite a bit, but at least we both try to guide others here, which not only goes unappreciated for the most part, but is outright ridiculed and attacked.

Maybe if others here see that it's ok to stand up for yourself, more will come out from the background with their own voice.

Open your mind, don't assume, and use LOGIC. Think. Question the paradigm.

Maybe we should cool our jets a little. This discussion has gone from technical to personal and I don't see that direction changing any time soon.

There's some good information in this thread, so I hate to see things get so bad that the moderator has to delete whole thing.

How about we go on to a different thread/subject?

    Peace.
