We got my BBC on the run stand tonight and began hooking it up.
I was putting the last spark plug in, and it just kept spinning. I never turned it harder than letting the weight of my ratchet push down on it.
    :(

The hole is stripped, and I assume I need to put a helicoil in. I've never done it before and am looking for pointers/suggestions/tips.

I'll be calling the guy I got the engine from tomorrow night, and will also be looking around the net and talking to local shops tomorrow to see what I can find out.

Maybe I can get some direction here too. I assume it's not that big of a deal besides having to tear the damn thing down again, now that it's all together.
    :(

    Thanks in advance.

Well.. after a short search, I found THIS kit at Summit and ordered it.
    It'll be here by Thursday.

Anyone have any experience with these?
It says no drilling required? Do I have to remove the head? (I assume the answer is yes, but I'd hate to yank it off only to have the kit show up Thursday and say I didn't need to remove it)
    :Do No:

Rick - That looks like a timesert kit. Much better than helicoils!!!:Smarty: :TU:

My brother used one of those kits on his Beretta.....has a 3.1l V6 with alum. heads. Had him rotate that cylinder to about 1/2 way up. You're going to get some amount of filings down in the cylinder....not much of a way around it.

With the piston 1/2 way up.....it's easier to blow any and all junk out with compressed air. But...with it down a bit - you run less risk of running the tap into one of those hi-dome BBC pistons!!!

My brother's went well.....he was quite happy with the results. Wouldn't you know....it was a BACK cylinder by the firewall.:Dou:

Let us know how it goes.
