I'll be replacing the front and rear springs as part of the rebuild project on my '67 GS. The original 400 is being replaced by a 455 with aluminum heads and intake......am I taking enough weight away from the front end that I should run "small block" springs? I really don't want to go around with the nose of the car in the air.

    TIA

yea get the small block springs and you will still be almost 100 lbs lighter then a smallblock
but i have trimmed half a ring off of a set of springs to bring them down.

I think if you take the hood off the height would be about same as if you ran alum. heads. If running an alum. intake too I'd take the bumper off and see what height it sits at and make a comparison from there and factor in the new rubber you will use. Consider the springs are already 40 years old and likely sag a bit.
Of course if you are doing the car over you'll likely want new upper/lower bushings and you might as well install new springs while the front end is apart.
Myself for the Special I bought SB chevy springs for the reason stated above.

Thanks - I am going to have the entire front end apart soon, so I'll drop in the SB springs when I do the front disc conversion.
