When I told a machinist I wanted a quaity balance job because my main webs webs are thin he suggested alum. caps. He said he has seen them on mopars and fords. And it's nothing new. The reasoning being the alum. will absorb vibration. Just wondering if anyone heard of such a setup.

Alum main caps can be a benenfit on something like our stock blocks in that they do absorb some shock which in turn will help take some stress off the main webs. Alum caps have been used successfully on other brands to eliminate block splitting. I have heard of alum halo girdles on ford engines. The idea is that aluminum, and only aluminum dampens out harmonics, which is apparently one of the things that breaks blocks. Jim Burek P.A.E. ENTERPRISES

Our Rodeck block has aluminum 4 bolt main caps. (Though that was pretty odd) The previous owner put 2000 HP to it, never had a problem. That would be a different thing to try on the Buick. Maybe somebody will one of these days.
