I highly recommend using one. I didn't and it cost me at the dyno shop. At the time I was pulling around 535hp when the stock shaft let loose. The exhaust, tranny case, floors, and trust bearing in the motor suffered the plunt of the force. Get one from Denny's Driveshaft in NY (716)875-6640. With a billet yoke and 1350 u-joints the total came to $700.95 w/shipping. With us spending all our time and money trying to make these cars go faster we often overlook the simplest and least exspensive things. :Smarty:
There's a recycler locally that sells them from salvaged ambulances, $75 all day. Just needs shortening and mods for yokes/u-joints.
I have one on the race car. It was purchased through "Inland Driveline" out here in So. Cal. I believe the cost was around 540 which included the heavy duty, (good for a gob of HP and TQ) both front and rear U-joints. Something like half the weight of the original drive shaft. Removing 15 or so pounds from rotating weight can't be a bad thing.
I got mine from Luckovich Racing in Michigan and it was under $400. 1350 u-joints included, you supply your own yokes. I used Strange.
Two words.. Mark Williams. We put one in Sweesy's car, and at 3200 lbs, going low 1.2 60's is torture on the driveline, and we have had no problems with it. not cheap at $700... but it's a peice of artwork. That was complete, front yoke, joints and all, and they nailed the length right on from my specs.. it was one of the few "take out of box, put in car" parts on that project. Worth the $$ IMHO
