Almost wrecked my GS tonight...

  1. Is this intergal to the master cylinder or somewhere outboard?

    NJBuickRacer I'd rather be racing...

It is not inside the master, it is a block usually located on the frame on our Buicks.

Hey Artie, glad you are ok and the car will live for another day. I bolted in a disc brake setup from a 72 cutlass into my 70 GS and it was one of the best investments I have made on the car. However you finnally decide to upgrade your brakes it will be worth it. Driving the car so much more fun knowing you don't have to plan brakeing so far in advance. My old power drum setup worked ok the first time you slowed down from 100 mph but after that things got real dicy. One day I plan to put on rear disc and bigger fronts. Baer brakes are high dollor but a friend used them and thier workmanship was top notch. Good Luck

Yes, I've experienced 'instant brake fade'.....scared the #$%^ out of me! (well, almost)....
After Arties experience, I may convert all my GS's to disc....
even if I lose points at a car show for 'non-original' equipment...sigh....

Sorry to hear about your brake failure... just this past sunday night I was in South Philly for the tried and true street races and to make a long story short, I blew out a wheel cylinder and the pedel hit the floor half way down the return side. This after I spent too much $$$ on 4 new drums, shoes and wheel cylinders last month to pass inspection :( And of course I have the single reservoir master cylinder... another new part.
I just did the shop around for a disc conversion, and it'll be ordered before the end of the weekend...
