U.S. Army, Special Forces, S.O.G., Black and Shadow Ops, Covert Actions Operative (non-spotter'd sniper), 1967 thru 1971, VietNam.

Ist work assignment: Project Omega (Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, North Vietnam, 4 years (244 incursions).

2nd work assignment: Project Phoenix (South VietNam), 1-1/2 years (79 assignments).

My job was to either extract or exterminate hard targets as determined by C.I.A. and/or Army intellegance. I did exterminations, rifle, side arm, knife, bare hands, whatever it took.

I also extracted 43 personnel, of other branches and Army, that were lost and/or position compromised in certain locations not easily handled by regular means.

Carlos Hathcock was my closest friend in VietNam. Marine sniper, counterpart to me. He died from Parkinson's Disease a few years ago, at age 58. I was a pallbearer. A GREAT person, we shall not see his like again.

  11. Greg Schmelzer

Greg Schmelzer What are you looking at?!

    USAF - 1985-1992

2years AF Special Forces on AC-130 Gunships

Maintenance on infrared target aquisition/laser target identification. (laser Bomb guidance. We make the "smart bombs" smart) Our motto was "Illumination for illimination"

Served in Panama from 20 Dec 1989 thru 31 Jan 1990. It may have not been classified as a "war", but we were getting shot at, and thererfore, it is a war, no matter what the politicians say. My hat is off to all the Viet Nam vets and the vets of the "Forgotten War", i.e. Korea. Nothing but respect for all that have served. Those who haven't, tip your hat to the next veteran you see!:TU:
