when i purchased my car the smog/a.i.r. pump belt was cut. is this going to hurt my car? if not, can i remove all of the associated plumbing? what is the pumps actual purpose? thank you for any help you can give 84 riv 307
it pumps fresh air, usually into the cat. having it missing is only hurting emissions. might save a few hp.
does anyone know if i need this, really? i under stand that it pressurizes my crankcase. does that really matter? can i get rid of the thirty pounds of **** that goes with it? someone please help. dave pickard d.pickard.attbi.com 1984 riv 307 V-8
It depends on your state. If you have smog inspection, taking it off will cause you to fail. If you dont have inspections, pull it off, but there is the possibility that it will cause the cataltic convertor to plug up quicker, so pull that off also. Phil
air pump it doenst pressurize your crankcase it just pumps air into the exhaust system to burn off any leftover hydrocarbuns(unburnt gas) to lower emmisions, if you need it it would be because of emmissions standards in your state. have it tested and if it passes the you can lose it as long as your state doensnt have a visual inspection of devices. or remove anything thats thet proves the system was there and change to non airpump parts so it looks original that should do:eek2:
