    guys:
we used to drill holes in the breathers of our cars back in the 60's & 70's . u could hear that real throaty sound as the secondaries
opened up . we thought that the holes allowed more air to be sucked into the carb .

"we used to drill holes in the breathers"

Are you talking about the air cleaner or the breathers for the valve covers?

    Heavens no....

Please do not drill holes in a factory Ram Air Air cleaner.. I have one of those that was on a customer's car.. and all I can think of is "what was this guy thinking"

If you want to do this to a electra air cleaner, it will add flow, and nobody will want to kill you for destroying a GS part..

But it's just so much easier to "flip the lid"(yes, put it on upside down), or shim the top of the air filter, so the lid does not seal.

I have also seen guys use a smaller dia top, for a similar effect.

Woah! I hope we're not talking about GS ram air cleaners either! I was thinking about the one I used to have. I think it was manufactured with the holes in it because the holes were filled with inserted mesh grills. The inserts had a high quality appearance, the kind you'd expect from major manufacturer. Here's a picture. Sorry, the detal isn't to great.

Incidentally, the chrome is not a re-chrome either. You can tell by looking at where the pieces fit together that it wasn't dipped after assembly. Ever see one like it?
