Is there any info on the block when it can be purchased and what they are doing with the main jouranl size lifter size cam size
The block as far as I know at this point will be on display at the PRI show this december. It is being designed for smaller main journals, 2.67 inches(chrysler ) and it can be set-up with larger diameter lifter bores. Information is on my site about the block, www.paeenterprises.com Any deviation from stock Buick specs, ie , lifter bores, and such will need to be preordered, as once these changes are made to a particular block, we can't undo it. My latest information is that blocks should be ready for sale in December of this year. Jim Burek P.A.E. ENTERPRISES
Whats the story on the cam what size what is going to hold the cam back in the motor crank is it going to be available with the stock main bearing buick diameter with 2.67 setup where are you going to have get a crank is going to be off the self or custom deal what lifter bore size are avaliable is the cam going to have cam trust retainer plate like a ford camshaft bearing diameter. are the mains going to get oil first. Main caps 4bolts splayed billet or cast. What about a bigger cylinder heads
MAIN BEARING SIZE Jim, How much? When? Do I throw my 4.500 stroker crank with stock mains in the junk pile???????? Is this block made by the same people that make INDY stuff? Chris
Larry, the mains will be billet 4 bolt. We are working on having new cranks available for the block. Being able to go up to Ford lifter bore size is an option. Jim Burek
On the factory block , this is a concern, since the crank is the backbone of the engine, with the new block, the block will have strength and will not depend on the crank to be a backbone. Look at other engines, like chevrolet, small main journals, longer stroke, there is not a problem with those. Jim Burek
Re: MAIN BEARING SIZE No, you don't have to throwaway your current stuff. We have talked to moldex about their cranks, they said it is no problem having the journals cut down on that crank. Jim Burek
PeeGee Scotty told me the same thing. I'd certainly go that route with my Moldex. I don't need to spend that kind of money again!
jim do you have any idea what the difference in the engine assembly weight is going to be between a stock 455 and your update (accessories mounted, filled with fluids)? i am kind of attached to the idea of the buick big block not weighing any much more than most other brands small blocks. :Brow:
The block is at the foundry. I talked with Mr Bradshaw during the PRI show and several times this week. He had told me just a few days before PRI that he would not have the block there because he had just taken the molds over to the foundry and at this point pulling the stuff back would just delay pouring the blocks, so as dissapointing as that was, I agreed that there is no sense in dalaying things any more, so I figured we'll just deal with not having anyhting to show at the PRI show. Be just a tiny bit more patient here, this thing is on the final stretch now. Jim Burek P.A.E ENTERPRISES
For those of you stepping to the new block I might need a block that has a girdle and all the work done to it and all I have to do is put my rotating assembly in it. So let me here from those of you looking to offset the price of a new block by maybe selling me the one you have. Doug
I am with Doug (respectfully after him, of course), I would love a block with oil mods & a girdle all ready to go.
