Thinking about picking up an AFR somewhere along the line and having a bung welded up on my exhaust when I (finally) get it installed.

    What's everyone's thoughts on a narrow band-gauge?
I've done a lot of reading...and everything points to a wide-band. But then again, everything I've read has also pertained to super tuned EFI systems, boosted systems, etc.

I plan on using this only as a means for tweaking my carb just right....and because gauges are sweet right?:Brow:

Based on that....can I get away with a narrow? Where should I locate the bung? what type of O2? Would I be better served with an O2 on both sides?

Thanks in advance! Hopefully this doesn't strike up a crazy heated debate!!

IMO, a narrow band O2 sensor will be practically worthless on a carb'd engine. They are only good for tweaking AFR's in the narrow range of roughly 14.5 to 15.0. Maybe a little wider. But with a carb it's not uncommon for them to idle in the 13.5 range, WOT (where you really want to tune right?) is often in the 12.5-13.0 range. The only value I see in a narrow band gauge would be at light throttle cruise to get a near 14.7 ratio for mpg (and I cruise in the 15.5-16 range), and for that with a carb I'd just use a vacuum gauge. So there is a reason everything points to a WBO2, they are more relevant to what you want to tune.

Unless you have major fuel distribution issues an O2 on one side is sufficient. Sparkplugs will tell if you have distribution issues. Best practices for bung location is horizontal to pointing downwards so water doesn't condense/stay on the sensor after shut off/overnight. I put it in the collector of the shorty headers on my buick and I put it horizontally in the exhaust pipe just past the exhaust manifold flange on my T-bird.

After a lot of research, I bought an NGK AFX wideband. It is $250. It has been very enlightening for sure. And, it beats the pants off of reading plugs.

    I like the LM-1 setups.
