I am going to look at an ebay car that did not meet reserve this saturday. Item # is 320074752376 (Auction is ended and did not meet reserve.) I tried to copy and attach pictures from Microsoft Word File so hopefully it works. The owner gave this as the Vin # on the car: "The Vin # on the car begins with 43437OHxxxxxx.I don't want to disclose the full vin do to those who particpate in ebay fraud." How or where can I go to check out Vin #'s and where and what #'s should I be looking for on the block. Anything else particular to a 70 Buick GS 350 that I should be looking for? THANKS!
Here is a link to the car on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...&satitle=320074752376&fvi=1&item=320074752376 Nice car by the way.
70 GS 350 specific VIN you have there. Vin for the engine is on the deck of the block between the two forward spark plugs on the driver's side. One the deck in the dipstick tube hole should be stamped SP for the Hi Po 70 350 engine. Vin stamped on the drivers side og the trans. Depending on the date and sequence number the records could be with the Sloan Museum or Wayne Roberts. Through about Nov for Slaon and Dec -July for Wayne. Close inspection for rust is the key.
Jim or anybody else, Three questions I am not clear on: 1. Is the SP stamped on the inside of the dipstick tube? 2. What numbers should I be looking for on the block that would identify the motor as a 1970 Buick GS 350 engine? 3. Anyone know the Horsepower of this engine? Thanks! Rick P.S. I was able to decode the Vin from a very helpful site which I just found. http://user.dtcc.edu/~rod/buick/buickvin.html 434370XXXXXX 4 = Buick Digit 1 34 = GS350 (1968-1970) Digits 2-3 37 = Two Door Hardtop Coupe Digits 4-5 0 = 1970 Digit 6
I hate to disagree with Jim, but I believe the engine code for a 350 is located between the 1 and 3 spark plug holes on the deck of the block. The last six of the VIN should be on the front face of the block behind the power steering pump. My 72 350 has the VIN stamp on the passenger side next to the timing cover. Im not sure when they switched to stamping it there. If you pick up a 70 Buick Service manual, the ID number locations are in the first few pages
SP will be on the block between the 1 and 3 plug. SP is the 315HP with 410 ft of torque(1970). Bring sand paper or ask the seller to take this photo. He should be able to get a pic of the SP stamp.Just checked my gs350 and I did see it there.
Any particular #'s on the engine I should be looking for besides the S and number matching the VIN? Also I was wondering about a Trim Tag decoder. Would it indicate bucket seats? and if so what do I look for? Thanks! Rick
The Trim Tag will tell you if the car had buckets originally, as well as original colors, vinyl top, etc. Nice color.
