Hello everyone. I am looking to purchase new armrests, chrome bases and pads for my 72 GS in white. Who do you think has the best price, service, shipping and quality parts? Also do the aftermarket parts match the originals in fit and finish? I don't want to wait a long time for these parts if possible.

Thanks in advance for your help.

In my experience most interior white or off white parts do not match. They may have to be further dyed once they are compared to your current color interior which is because of time unlikely to be the same color that it started out. Here are some of my own observations about four major Buick vendors:

www.opgi.com usually has the best price but shipping time, serivice and stocking is as bad as it gets.

www.yearone.com has the best service but the worst prices and most expensive shipping.

www.thepartsplaceinc.com is somewhere in between on price with quick shipping.

www.postons.com Is Ok on shipping but I have really gotten some poor quality parts there and will not be back. They also grossly exaggerate to the unknowing the performance gains obtained by some parts they sell like intakes when they should know there may be little or no gains.

Jim thanks for the reply. I keep looking at all those places but haven't decided yet. I am trying to compare them all.

    Thanks Dave

    Dave,

I agree with jim 100% on the color issue. I am still having a tough time mathing my pearl white interior. Alot of stuff i needed i found used and was able to clean up. As for the quality issue- I think Year One is the most honest when it comes to authenticity. I bought 7 items from OPGI and have to send back 3 of them. You get what you pay for and i have wasted so much money sending things back.

You will never match hard plastic pearl white to a pearl white interior.
You need to use SEM Super White, 15103 followed by a Pearl top coat from The Parts Place.

All of the white hard plastic I have seen from A-body vendors, has to be dyed with SEM to be nice and match. Don't expect the repro parts to match your original interior because you have to factor in age and sun exposure which will cause your original color to no longer look original.

I agree YO does carrry good stuff and checks it out for fit. OPG constantly assumes Chevelle stuff is correct. Occasionally it is but all too often it is not.

Just to be clear....to make everything match.....you need to dye all items so they all share the same color dye batch.

I've heard mostly good things about YO. I think the armrest and bases only have to be close to the original color because they are against a brown background. If it was another interior piece that would make a difference. How is the fit of these parts?

I just want a real nice repo part not junk.

Can I get my actual interior color from the plate on the firewall? I have a partial build sheet thats cut off at the interior selection.

    Thanks Dave

There are only two suppliers --PUI and Legendary. YO like all others uses one of those. As George points out every dyed batch is a little different. So unless you change everything it is hard to match old stuff to new stuff.
