I have a 2.56 one legger currently, and am rebuilding my 350 with a little bigger cam and shift kit. I can get my hands on a good condition complete 3.08 with housing. Will I see a noticible difference with the step up off the line, and decent highway, or is it not worth the work???

Definitely go with the 3.08 set-up, best all around gear set in my opinion. Best to add a posi unit to it, I assume you have an 8.5" rear. Otherwise, you will just spin the rr tire.

I'd go witht he 3.08. I'm not sure how much you will actually notice it, but it will preform better. You will be turning 20% more in the RPM's but 3.08 is a great gear.

Thanks for the response. Yes, I have 8.5. I'm told this complete rear is from a 1971 LeMans, have a 71 skylark. Will it be a direct bolt up?

Only 71-2 Cutlass and Skylark had the 8.5" rear. If the rear is from a Lemans, it is an 8.2. To verify, see if the rear u-joint is held in place by U-bolts or screws and straps. U-bolts indicate 8.2"

Make sure what you have before you proceed. Not worth your time, effort and money using the 8.2. Get the 8.5"

mhgs it just takes money !!

    up up and a way...

We just installed a 3.42 posi unit from a 69 stage one into our 70 small block gs and it really woke it up !! To tell the truth a 3.64 unit would have been even nicer :3gears: ......really depends on what your looking to do but even the 3.42 are fine on the highway....what the heck...it's only gas !!1
