Hi, can anyone offer their advice about fitting rope type rear main seals so they dont ever leak oil? This is for 64 300V8 power pack engine. :)

    rear main seal

i installed neoprene seals in the front & rear mains. the rope seals have a tendency to weep a bit of oil . just the nature of that old technology .

If you roll the rope seals in with a socket or similar object instead of just trying to push them in, you should have minimal oil leaks and I know guys who have had rope seals in engines for years with no leaks. I've got the old style rope seals in my engine and have no leaks, but its only got about 2k mile on it.

:)Hi Sean, I am not sure what the 231V6 is? Can you provide any more info? Could it be the same rear main seal used in our GM Holden 3800cc V6 used in Australia?
    cheers
