Hey guys, What type of adjustment do I need to make to compensate for my A/C running? Without the A/C unit on, the car idles fine. When I turn it on, it seems to almost want to stall at idle. Do I need to increase idle speed on the carb., or is it a timing adjustment that's needed?? On my '71 350 -4 . Thanks, Mark
Many (all?) A/C cars had a solenoid that kicked up the idle speed when the A/C comes on. Actually the solenoid kicked the idle up, and the A/C dragged the idle down, so you wound up with the same idle speed as before. -Bob Cunningham
Thanks Bob, the car is an A/C car, so if it is the solenoid, how and where do I check for proper operation? Mark
The solenoid should be on the intake with a wire going to it,if its not there someone took it off.If you have a body or chassis manuel it will tell u where it goes and why.
Early '71 still used the dashpots. Mid year change to the solenoid. Intermediate harness from the engine harness to the TCS & then to the idle solenoid. Harness is pink wires, 3 connectors, one single & two double.
Solenoids seem to be in ready supply. Having a hard time finding a bracket for mine however. Currently an idle solenoid on E-Bay listed for a Dodge, AC delco part number. This is the correct one for a '71 Buick 350-4V.
Is this the A/C idle solenoid? I just bought the car last night, and I'm tring to learn. I have a 64 impala with A/C, but it does not have one of these solenoid looking devices by the carb. Also, can you tell me where to look for the trans kickdown? It does not appear to hook up to the carb like on my chevys.
