Adhesive and position of Optikleen label

Discussion in 'The Bench' started by BamaWildcat, Nov 11, 2004.

  1. So...

    Like most people that have a nearly 41 year old OptiKleen bottle, my label was so far out of existance I had a clean bottle. I bought a repo label from CARS, but it doesn't come adhesive backed.

    What adhesive would ya'll recommend I use to attach this to the glass jug? (Elmer's, glue stick, liquid nails? :Do No: )

    Also, does anyone have a picture of a bottle with the sticker on it? I am looking for an orientation.

    Thanks,

    3shields Let's go, MOUNTAINEERS!!!

    adhesive.........

    Are you sure the label you purchased does not have a water activated adhesive on the back of it, like a stamp? Try dampening a corner of it and see what you have.

    The replacement labels have a water activated adhesive on them. Just wet it on the back side, don't soak it and apply/ It dose not matter where it is applied, The center of the label should be directly down the center of one of the triangular points. After applying wet label patt dry with a soft paper towel. Most all these decals come from Jim Osborn Reproductions, Georgia.
    He carries a complete line of Buick Decals and any other car decals you can think of.
    If you need a NEW Cap for that bottle I have them, perfect reproduction cap.
    $ 5.00 plus $1.00 S & H.

  6. Hmm...

    Wet down the back of the label, put it on the Optikleen bottle. Left to dry.

    Came back a few hours later, and the dry, mis-shapen label was by the bottle. :puzzled: There was no water actived adhesive on this label.

    My wife is recommending rubber cement. I think I'll give it a try.

    Centered on one of the triangular edges is the answer I was looking for!! I saw one like this, but was wondering if this was correct. Thanks, Dave

    You got a defective label--they are supposed to have the water activated glue on the back of them (like a stamp). Get on your computer and go to www.osborn-reproduction.com They have the label you want on there--including any Buick decal/label you could ever want. It will have the water activated adhesive on the back of it, and you just stick it on like a big stamp.
