AC Switch

I just bought Chris Lotts Seamist Green car and am collecting the parts I need to button things up with it. One of the problems is the AC switch (the one in the dash) is stuck on De-Ice so you can't turn on the AC. If I'm going to have that big compressor in there, I want it to work so...

What would cause the switch to stick? Is there a way to "unstick" it?

Do you think it might have something to do with the cables or the vents being stuck and not actually the switch itself? I'm not exactly sure how these systems work as my Skylark is a non-AC car.

Could I get a switch from another A-body, say, a Cutlass or Chevelle, and have it work properly?

Lots of questions, sorry about that!

This is a vacuum switch. \One electrical contact for .......compressor I think. Take it out & check for interference. Control unit held in place by two 3/8" captive nuts. These are on studs that are on the back of the dash.Take out the radio & you can get at the right hand one.
I have a couple old spares here. Not pretty by any means. Let me know.
These are on E-Bay two-three times a month @ NOS.

Thanks Steve and Todd, I'll be in touch with one (or both) once the car arrives at the end of the month :TU:

Steve - are you saying that the actual level you move on the dash controls a vacuum switch? Maybe I'm just not seeing the picture... but what exactly might cause it to not move? I know, at least on some of the cars, there are cables, and it looks like a level that moves cables, but I am probably WAY off base???
