I've been searching for a directional switch for my Riv. It is another "discontinued" part (nothing new here). Anyway, I had a local dealer do a search for me, and part #d6229 is in 3 places far away from me.

It was explained to me that some corporate idiot decided to make a rule last fall that "a/c delco distributors are not allowed to sell out of their area." Soooooo, that means that I am S.O.L. :af:

My local auto zone, who IS an a/c delco dist. can not get one b/c it is discontinued, even though one is available 2,000 miles away from me. I called 1-800-acdelco and spoke with a service rep........I said to him "what am I suppossed to do, hop on a plane just to get my part?" He said "there is nothing (he) can do". S.O.L. :af:

You would think a corporation as large as A/C Delco would never made it this far in the business world with narrow minded policies like this. Wouldn't you think they would rather sell their products instead of preventing people from buying them?

Well, as my luck would have it, I was very lucky to find a very freindly Mexican gentleman at a dist. in Texas who agreed to sell one to me that he had.....he bent the rules for me. I even got it for dealer price. Now, was that such a bad thing? Geez louise. :spank:

No wonder people put Fram oil filters on GM cars.

I just tried them....the search by part # came up empty, and their catalog only goes back to '83.

It is becoming obvoius to me that GM could not care less about those of us with older cars. This all makes me feel better about having a Mopar and a Ford for daily drivers, although Ford is the same way.

In my opinion, a directional switch is a safety item, I hope they get sued.:af:

    Joe,

Is the switch for the 66 or 67?

If its the 67, does it have cornering lamps?

Try www.partsvoice.com . Just put in your zip, brand of car, and part # and it list all the dealers that have the part in stock.

Thanks, Greg. I put that one in my favorites. I tried that, one place has 2,289 of them. That must be an error.

There's a section where you can enter the make and part number. I tried the part # of a 1970 GS grille, but to my surprise nobody has one, lol. :(

There were two kind of switches used for 67 Buicks with cornering lights... And you need the correct one as the 4 way flasher button isn't located at the same place on both models and the steering columns aren't the same.

My car has the 4 way flasher near the steering wheel (and the most fragile switch) but I plan removing the column from my other 67 parts car that also have cornering lights but the different switch.
Here is the box of the replacement switch that I ordered about 4 years ago from my Buick dealer. It did cost about 200$ Can.
There is another part # on it maybe it will help you in your search.
If not, I might ask my dealer tomorrow if they are able to order it.

Take a picture of your car's 4 way flasher button and I'll tell you if this model is what you need.

Pheeeeew. you scared me there for a minute. That's exactly what I ordered. The way I understand it, the '67 switch w/tilt and cornering lights was blue. The '68 was pink. They were stamped "bpm". The white switch was for non-tilt I THINK. That may be the one with the different 4 way hole.

You aren't kidding, it's fragile. Mine broke in the cold when one of the return pawls broke when I went to make a left turn.

One person told me this was also used in full size '68 Pontiacs. The original # was 5698899, and the new # is 7805675, the ACDelco # is D6229 (obsolete of course):af:

My button is close to the steering wheel as yours is, so this thing should fit. If not, I may dissappear for a few days.

My replacement switch is multi-colored (orange-blue-yellow or something like that).
The switch that was in my car previously was red.
As for my 67 Riv parts car's column, it is otherwise identical to mine (Aqua color, tilt, without shifter as both cars have a console) and the car has cornering lights. The switch is white.
I parted out a 68 Wildcat with cornering lights and the switch was the same fragile model as we have in our cars (not the same as the white one in my parts car) and it was all white... The car had column shift and no tilt but the switch was exactly the same as the red one in my 67 and the replacement switch I bought.
Strangely, my 67 didn't came with cornering lights but unlike other 67-68 cars I had or parted out, it already had the cornering light switch which made it simple to install the option.
I just had to connect the two connectors that were taped under the dash and install the cornering lights.

I guess there is no logical reason for all that... The factory probably installed what they had on hand when they assembled the columns and as long as cars equipped with cornering lights had one of the two correct switches, it was fine!
Now, if our cars had the other model, they would probably not have broken and we wouldn't have needed to talk about that!

An advice to avoid breaking the switch: use the "lane change" feature in cold weather (until the car is warmed) and avoid cancelling the flashers manually as much as possible.
If your new switch is like mine, It will probably be much stiffer than the old one. It might also need to be greased.
