I think Bobb was refering to the "Buick" heads for the SBC that have been discussed here before....?

Bob K is on the right track here, using the already proven technology from the V6 program for the SBB. It would be great if some of this could be used for the 215/300/340/Rover crowd, being that we have basically NO aftermarket support currently. If the technology can be used on the 350, that is a bonus. Just not sure it will work with the change in port layout.

What are the detail around the Smokey Yunick builds?

haven't found anything apart from an off the cuff comment that Smokey was doing the original performance work on the factory v6 in the late 70s, prior to handing off to Baker Engineered engines.

i've never had my hands on any of Smokey's books, that might be the only place to find his work on this. as good as he is, i'm sure that the NASCAR guys with the Stage 2 block took this a lot further after another 10+ years of development.

They are right bob My comments were made based on this being a v8 thread not a v-6. Based on what sean posted earlier the v-6 numbers weren't 500 etheir and if even think you can compare a v-6 built to run cart with what we can do we better find someone to finance it. I was speaking of the v-8 run in nascar in the 80's nothing buick on them but valve covers. To be honest this whole thing is starting to bore me. We are working on more parts all the time and build what you can afford. Aluminum heads aren't going to happen anytime soon so just add BOOST I love it

ok guys I know you are talking about SBB heads. In the 80's there was a guy by the name of Ron Consar? He used a stage2 buick v6 to go deep into the 10's maybe high 9's. This was naturally asprated motor. Mr. Consar died in the 90's and his ashes were spread at BG via the parachute on his regal. Making 500 hp from a stg2 v6 is easy.

I would like to know more about the Realsteel heads Greg posted pictures of. Does anyone sell these in the US. Greg where are you located? What is the US price? Im interested for a 300 rather than the 350.

rcull has agreed to host them over at Buicks.net / TeamBuick.com in the "Buick Library" subheading over in the Reference area.

the good news is, this means the pictures will get posted in full scan resolution and the words will be nicely legible as he's converting all text to an HTML page instead of leaving it in jpg or what have you.

the bad news is that we're transcribing this by hand and then he's building the HTML himself so throughput on posting the various articles isn't what it could be.

but what the heck, we've already been waiting 20 years. what's a few months more here and there?

the Baker of Grand Rapids MI version, i think these guys may have had the work immediately after Smokey:

nice article detailing some of the design difficulties for racing the Buick v6 filled out with great pics of the 1981 Winston Cup Buick Pace car and the champion #11 Buick Regal ( powered by an SBC of course ) of Junior Johnson:

here's the Stage 2 Buick v6 adapted for use on an SBC that Bobb was talking about:

Yeah that is some awesome info. It is really to bad that the 350 never got the R&D that the v6 did but hopefully with forced induction and multiport injection we can make the best of our iron heads.

Here is a link to their catalog...http://www.realsteel.co.uk/section1.pdf
To get the US price multiply the British sterling by 2... The heads are roughly $2200 USD and then there is shipping..:dollar:

i still say swap 64 heads/intake over and port the hell out of the heads and get custom BIGGER valves :D

Your compression ratio will be screaming high with 64 300 heads on a 350, like 13:1 with flat top pistons, on top of that the aluminum 300 heads are barely adequate for a 300, they will be a major stovepipe for a 350 even if you port them.

Nothing to be gained out of 340 heads in my opinion... Would need custom intake and cam ect anyway.

Port 350 heads, they support 450 hp without issue and 550 if you really go all out and that is NA. Add a few psi and 600-700 hp is not out of the question.
