For those of you who don't know...........Mike trailered from Scottsdale AZ. and it took him 44hrs. He then took the INFAMOUS Wagon out of the trailer to warm it up and promptly broke something in the Lenco. ( the wagon hasn't seen a Dragstrip in 6yrs). He then pulled the Lenco out of the car and had "NEW" parts overnited and had the wagon running the next day. He then did some hard chargin' runs to get back in the groove..........and ran his personal best ever of ......................8:99. I for one would like to say "THANKS MIKE"...........you put on a great show.........that wagon is still one of my FAVORITE BUICK kickass racecars!!!!!!!!!!!!
No doubt, Mike and Crew put down some serious effort to come out to the Event.. He left Monday Morning right before we did, and I doubt he is home yet. If you folks get a chance, when calling and ordering parts or getting advice from the folks at TA, thank them for their participation in the event. Mike's contribution extended beyond just getting his stuff there, and no one knows that better than I do. THANKS MIKE!... See you next year JW
Yeah Jim, I feel the same way and I told Mike that at dinner on Sunday. Oh that's right, you couldn't make it. Up to your armpits in Sportwagon valvetrain. Sorry. It was a really GOOD dinner!
Ya Doug... duty called, and I really hated to miss that dinner.. I am sure it will become an "annual tradition", and we will take over that resturant in future years. For next year, I will make sure I have my ducks in a row early, so I can come and relax the entire week.. (as long as the machine shop doesn't finish 5 motor's worth of machining and get all the parts to me 3 weeks before the event, like they did this year!) But we made it thru, delivered a couple motors down there, and of course that wagon, with it's new motor installed. I have to thank Mike Bucy and his boys John and Matt, couldn't have done it without them. JW
UPDATE: Dateline..Scottsdale, Arizona. It is currently 9:45 p.m. EST on Tuesday. Mike just called me on his cellphone to let me know he's back home. I've been home in NJ for over 24 hours and he's just arriving back in AZ after a 38 hour ride home. He said he just wanted to give me some perspective of what he and Dave and Nick went through to attend this event, timewise. I told him again how much we appreciated everything he did to support the Nats and also about this thread of appreciation. He sounded glad that we felt that way. He also sounded really tired. Sleep Well Buddy! You earned it.
It was great to see Mike running the TA wagon again! My favorite Tomazewski quote of the weekend had to be in the parking lot at the Red Roof, "How do you get a dent in a hood tach?" I had never seen so many people look at a hood tach before! I think someone on this board needs to change their "nickname!"
LMAO @ Kenny, You just had to bring that up again didn't you. Brian's probably tearing it out of the hood as I type this. Glad you guys made it home safe, and it was great meeting and hanging out with you all. See ya's next year!!! Also wanted to give Mike and the TA team a big thanks for coming so far and beating the snot out of that Wagon for us.
Well we like you too. You can take Da Wagon out next time I see ya. Oh and thanks for talking Dana out of taking the trailer hitch off. Beth
Congrats Mike, on the 8.99, and even more impressive, on your quick reaction times at such an advanced age! Little did I know the last time I visited your shop that the tweaking you were showing me on the engine, etc, would lead to a new best time for the Wagon! Seriously, THANK YOU for sponsoring the event, for your support of the BPG, and for all your efforts in the Buick community. It was great seeing you and Dave again (even if those two "beers" he had at dinner Sunday night put him out like a light)! Cole
I was able to meet Mike on Sunday afternoon and talk to him briefly on how the TA wagon was built. My '68 SpecialDeluxe wagon is also from Scottsdale,Arizona. TA wagon started out with the same green paint that my wagon has. Mike told me that next year I can park my '68 wagon alongside his. Sure would like to get a picture of that. I want to thank Mike for allowing the time to talk with me. Looking forward to next year. ......John
I didn't know that wagon had a Lenco...that up's the "cool factor" even more! Looks like its got steel fenders still too! :TU:
god i missed that too.. thanks for reminding me of all that i missed.. *sigh*... anyone got video of that baby running? i wanna see! and mike if you read this, even though i didn't make it. i for one am glad you drove that distance it shows how dedicated you are to this sport and it's amazing. Hopefully i'll get to see ya run her next year! and congrats on your personal best!
