I've never been crazy about the q-jet filter design. this might be a stupid question- but can an external filter be run in place of the factory filter? And FYI- it wont be one of those cheesy clear filters...
I have a billet filter inline with the AN -6 line between my CV pump and carburetor. I use the same line for both the Q -jet and AED carburetors. I also have another billet filter inline with the -8 line between the tank and pump. No problems at all.
not a problem but be careful what style filter and where you put it, I Almost lost the GS when the Mr gasket glass filter came loose and spewed fuel all over the intake and exhaust manifold. I now use all metal inline filters with fuel Injection line clamps. :eek2:
Always toss the sintered brass filters, Use the paper ones with out the spring check ball, or just remove the spring check ball. I use the fram canister one that you can replace the element. I would not not use the stock filter , I have never tried it , but it would seem that the filter would keep the fuel from slamming the seat, or at least it would happen in a more consistant even flowing pattern.
I only use the fram one because i have an electric pump, If just stock pump i would not worry about any extra filters. Unless you know you have a bunch of crap in your tank. But you can pump sewage through a mechanical pump , clean it out and then stick it on your car no problem. Not recommended though
I am running an Aeromotive filter mounted on the frame with a 10 micron paper element. I have an electric fuel pump in the stock tank with an inlet filter on the pump itself. The inline filter is in place of the short rubber hose down under the drivers door. I fitted the inlet of the qjet with a -8 to threaded adapter in place of the qjet filter and of course went all an fittings everywhere. A little trash came out in the float bowl initially but not a bit since.
