You guys are too critical, get over your selves. The car doesn't look that bad, I kind of like it even though it is not my taste, and sicne when did it become appropriate to bash buick onwers on this board just because their car doesn't meet some asthetic standard you have, gimmie a break. Also he has a monte carlo for sale in another auction so maybe he just made a mistake when he was cut and pasting the ad format. Nobody's perfect, get over it. If you guys don't have something better to do than anonomously bash people on the internet maybe you sould head out the garage an refresh yourself as to why you are here.

No one is being critical, I agree it doesn't look too bad, and I don't see any bashing going on. Heck when I was young I made mistakes too. Those wheels do nothing for the car, color is ok, but if your going to advertise it as a "classic" then the seller should try and "fit" the mold--meaning the wheels take away from the car, at least in my point of view and he should proof read his ad - This is not a Monte Carlo. I do agree with his ad that he traveled in town without any problems. Heck if I drove that through some places in my town, I wouldn't have any problems either. Just my opinion and this isn't posted anonymously either, most of us sign our names at the end of our posts in this which is a public forum and some of us even use spellcheck.

look again, I'm sure these were all meant to compliment the owner  :

    and on to this issue:

Some people post their names and some don't, but let's face it posting on the internet is far from walking up to the owner and telling him to his face his car sucks, which I doubt anybody here would do. And as far as spellcheck, if you are that worried about it don't have a quick reply box at the bottom of each post. You could still read it and understand what I am saying, so cut me some slack, You would type differently too if you sholder was still healing from a motorcycle accident.

Well, I didn't mean to start a war here, but my spell check is my brain and if I can't spell it I use a dictionary. Typo's are one thing and are a way of life and that mistake is made by everyone. Spelling, well don't get me started on an education topic.
I was stating my opinion as I read and interpreted the posts from others on the board as their opinions also.
So no need to take a defensive stance. As for walking up to people and stating my observations, well I know a lot of posters on this board and they know me, and we have no problems in telling people what our opinions are to their faces.
Take it easy and I hope you shoulder heals fast.

Yes I poked some fun at the add! BUT I also sent them an E-mail saying to correct their Add so that they could have a better chance of selling it! I am sorry that I offended you, that was not my intentions. I will stand in the corner for an hour.

It's not that any one particular post offended me here, but a pattern of posts and threads that I have witnessed here since I have been a member. In this post and the AMC post and a few others all I hear about of people are negative comments about cars that someone put a lot of hard work into to get to a certain level: "the color is too ugly", "he chromed this part, and not that", "it isn't original". Someone put a lot of hard work to ressurect that car, and they made the discision as to the apperance of the car. Nobody is saying you can't have an opinion as to some of his choices but frankly it is begining to feel like you guys are seeking out certain cars that look radically different just so you have something to pick on and that really isn't fair or right.

I understand these are all opinions but think about this, how open and friendly are we if the owner of that Buick was a member here and saw this post. If I were him I would be offended because basically you guys have called him brain damaged for a mistake in an e-bay ad, and told him his car is ugly. Is this the kind of friendly community this place is trying to promote? Most of the people here like their cars to look a certain way, and that is cool. But If I were a lowrider guy I would be pretty turned off with people's reactions to the heavy flaked root beer colored 70 convertible that was posted a couple of weeks ago, and probably wouldn't return. With this car if I were aiming to make my clapped out grandma green skylark look like that (I am not, I am building a car to look like staged67gspwr's) and I saw people's reactions like above I would be a little leery and less open about hanging out on this board. Point is people put a lot of hard work it totally disreguards that when you guys begin to search out buicks to ridicule. It is one thing when the onwer asks for opinions, entirely another when you guys hunt them down just to make fun of them.

I don't mean to pick a fight with anyone here. You guys stated your opinions and I am just throwing mine out there abotu somethign that has been bugging me about this board for a while. There is no need for any apologies on anyone's part, and it isn;t my intention to step on anyone's toes. In the end it's just a message board, not the real world anyway.

AS far as the sholder, I have always been a bad typer (sausage fingers), but with the injury it has casued my right had to be a little slower and imprecise than my left. It has pretty much healed but I have to rehab it now. Good or bad typing isn't an indication of anyone's education level, just of their manual dexterity. Anyway, hope you all have a nice friday.

Hey Geeto 67, Point taken and I whole heartedly agree with the above. Heck my car isn't original either, and I get flack from the purists at times, but you know what--I am the one paying for it, its my car to do what I want to do, if they don't like it, well to each his own.
Looks like our responses to each other might of been taken seriously. Hey, I am not mad, hope you're not. Just a bunch of guys with opinions, and yes it is harder to convey the thoughts on a written board versus in person.
So, have a good weekend. Be talking to ya later.

    With the utmost respect...

With respect to all opinions above.

The wheels deserve the "Pimp Ride" tag. I like the Pimp my Ride show.

I always looked at this area of the site as a place to have some fun. Sometimes people pass on a "heads-up" on stuff we really want, sometimes we just make fun of some of the crazy items out there. There are some really funny people on this site. IMHO

My final point: That car is not a '72 Monte Carlo! That is not opinion, or an attempt to be cruel, it is a fact.

Any IDIOT, no matter how little book learnin', can tell its a '71.

(That was a joke) :Brow: I kill myself!

Last time I checked, the point of a message board was to have a discussion with someone. In your other thread (the one about the AMC matador machine) you said the car was impossible to get parts for and would not be worth dumping money in to use. As a former AMC AMX owner, I happen to know that despite the car being one of two it was the combination of parts that made it rare, and non of the individual parts are all that unique. Apparently you took this as a personal attack (and I'm the one you're calling nuts?) which it was not intended to be. Furthermore you used an anology to make your point and I used the same analogy to make mine. I didn't use any insulting words, and despite my disagreement with your position, did not say anything to demean you.

When I first joined this board it was understanding that it was to be a friendly place to discuss buick related topics. For a while I didn't have much of a problem with things being said. Lately however I get the feeling that there is mob mentality going on here - where individual cars that don't fit the majority's asthetic standard are singled out and picked on. I can understand and don't disagree with it in cases like "overhaulin'" where a professional crew designed and built a 67 buick skylark lowrider on national television, and fully expected and anticipated it be judged by individuals in the hobby. They are looking for that kind of cirticism. In the case of this thread, this guy incorrectly listed his auction and guys rush to call him brain damaged, when it was fairly obvious they guy just happend to make a rookie mistake. The feelign I get from threads like this one is that only some buicks are welcome if they fit a certain asthetic profile, which isn't the case all buicks are welcome reguardless of how they look. not everybody is a master at car crafting, some "worked on cars" will look better than others. There is a big difference between posts that give clear criticism about a car and posts that are mean and I got the feeling that some of the posts here were on the mean side of things without offering any real criticisms. Saying the car is too bright a shade of green or the rims are out of proporiton are clear criticism, saying "I'm not quite sure how to react to 'Runs just as good as it looks.' " is just gonna alienate people.

By the way, none of this is meant to be an insult to the original poster of this thread, GStage1, who has through this board helped me more times then I can count. I don't think he specifically searched out this car for it to be made fun of, but more that it was kind of a joke that developed a slight mean spirit as more posts were added. I'm just saying when a bunch of guys begin beating up on a car it doesn't do us as a community much of a service.

That being said: Don, "It is a FREE COUNTRY! There is free speech!" has no real bearing on this issue for several reasons: 1) the free speech amendment doesn't necessarily apply to privatly onwed and operated message boards, and 2) I'm not trying to do anything more than get people to think about what the post and see if it jives with the spirit of the board. You wanna say it sucks, fine no problem. You want to scour the internet for buicks specifically to make fun of, well I don't think that promotes the board very well.

Somebody busted my chops about my typing, and I responed why my typing was lousy. I use the quick reply box a lot so I don't proof read. BFD. It was also insuinated that I was not intelligent because I the way I type. Lets just forget the injury thing since that conversation is pretty much dead anyway.

I don't understand the need to sing your name, it doesn't give you any more credibility to me if you left it off. We have never met, I have no reason to feel one way or the other about you, and posting your name isn't gonna change that. I guess my point about anonymity was that it is easier to say a car sucks when you are at home than when you are at say a show and the owner is standing right next to ya. Even if you are going to say it sucks, few people would just blurt out it sucks rather than finding a more diplomatic way of saying what they don't like.

    lets chill

i agree with marvin lets all of us just relax, besides when us muscle car owners make fun of another car with big shiny rims i think we are just doing it to get a little laugh am i right and the owners of the cars with big shiny rims probably laugh at us sometimes.and i do remember that having a little laugh is allowed in a conversation right?lets not have another big war.ive already seen one on buickstreet and bill handled it and everyone was quiet and calm.were all buick owners here arent we.i think we should all have a big party one day with a lot of beer so we can all socialize and hear each others stories of old buicks.i think this sight was made for learning about buicks and not fighting all the time.Don lets throw a big party for all the buick guys around our area :beer :beer :beer :beer :beer

    Okay

I see that I have finally met the Buick V8 Board Ethic Police! It was just a little "Ribbing" on the part of a few of us and no way reflects the mood of this board! It seems to me that where I was today on this board you were also to question my ethics, Well I see that after looking into your back ground on this web site that you have made it a point to counter point anyone that goes against a certain grain that make seem problematic to you, Another words you got up on the "wrong side of the bed" I would have muched preferred that you put your critisim in a private message but you decided that you wanted to make a public forum out of your crusade, Well I will not be apart of it and I will not retract what I have said on those two threads! It was done in a good nature way and no disrespect was intended!
So take your child like idealogly and ram it down someone elses throat!
