Looking at a couple mufflers to quiet my Skylark down some. The PYPES mufflers that came with my 3” system are too much for me. Two mufflers stand out based on case length. magnaflow XL 13239 And Dynomax Ultra Flo Mufflers 17229 I’ve seen the ultra floes mention a few times but was wondering if anyone had any experience with the Magnaflow.
For a little different sound the Hooker Aero chambers are my favorite...maybe too loud for you but have different tone than a packed core muff
If you need to tone down the sound, you can try out the Gardner mufflers. Gardner makes exhaust systems to replicate what Buick installed out of the factory. I really like mine, has a nice muscle car exhaust sound, I can still listen to my radio. Vet
The Buchev has a pair of Magnaflow 12646 mufflers. I like the tone, but they are just a bit louder then I would like; I'm too cheap to replace them though. They have been on the truck since 2010 and they still look new. I think they will outlast me.
Vet, What mufflers you have from Gardner? My 26 year old system needs replacing from them and I think they now offer "turbo" muffler, which I'm hoping has more sound than my concours system. Mike
Gardner sales a performance muffler for the GS 455 buicks. I've never heard of their Turbo muffler, maybe it's a new model. I bought my Gardner's about 2 years ago. My exhaust pipes are 2 1/2 inch. I can tell you, the owner stepped-in and answered my questions and sold me the mufflers and exhaust pipes that run over the finder wells. The owner is a super nice guy. His products are very good. His exhaust systems is designed to fit our Buicks like the Buick factory built. Vet
Update: I just read the description on the performance exhaust (2 1/2 inch) system Gardner sales. Seeing I bought their performance exhaust system I must have bought their Turbo muffers too. I was buying a lot of Buick parts doing a lot of upgrades that took 2 years to finish. I like the sound they produce and I have a Comp Cam that has a nice rump to it and the muffers play nice Cam music. Vet
Vet, I'm sold on the product, their concours system w/N-25 has been on my '71 GS 350 convertible for 26 years, just want more sound. Thank you. Mike
Glad I could help. I just thought of something, on YouTube you might find Buick Gardner muffler sound if you're lucky. Vet
I did check just now, I also could only find 455 big blocks. That said, before I got into the Buick world and bought a Buick with a 455. I'm a long time Chevy SB guy (327 ci) who ran high performance SB's. I had some great sounds with a small block with a solid lifter cam and Headman headers. I'am sure your Buick 350 will have a great sound to it. Vet
I put the Dynomax 17734 Super Turbo Mufflers on my 71 GS 350 and they are pretty nice. I have the 3" Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers on my 70 Stage 1 and they are about the same. If you come to Bowling Green to the GS Nats, I'll let you hear/ride in both of them if you want to experience them up close.
Not sure which of the Pypes mufflers you have, there are 4 different versions ranging from mild to insanely loud, but have you considered installing a resonator? Most bottle style resonators tamp down the sound only slightly, but Vibrant makes a resonator called 'Ultra Quiet'. They work really well. https://www.classicmusclecarexhaust...ody/Vibrant-Ultra-Quiet-Resonators-p446892957
Agree the Walker Dynomax 'Super Turbo's' are a favorite here. I have 2-1/2" on my cars. I have no idea how the 3 inchers sound, but would guess they are kinda similar. Take your pick depending on in/out configuration: https://www.dynomax.com/mufflers/super-turbo-mufflers?limit=10&muffler_inlet_diameter1=150
Someone had to be the guinea pig… being installed May 13th. Hope they sound good cause they won’t win any beauty contests.
