I tried this in the Bench but got no response. I want to put a 455 Buick in my 84 Olds Delta. It currently has the original 307. It is my daily driver so I need to keep it mild. I spent a bunch of money this spring on the A/C system and don't want to tear it out or alter it if I don't have to. Is there a way to mount the newer model short compressors to a BBB? The motor will go in just fine but the A/C is giving me fits.
Keith, Since no Buick 455 that I know of, came with the R-4 A/C compressor, you are going to have to take a good look at A/C brackets from the A-6, and R-4 compressors, and see if you can modify one or the other, so that they will fit the R-4 compressor. You might have to fabricate something. I would eyeball it first and see if any ideas, jump out at you. Where there is a will there is a way. Good luck.
I believe that if you keep sets matched up, you can swap 350 and 455 accessory brackets. If this is true then I have to wonder if any of the later 350s came with the R4 compressor. I know my 77 Caprice had an R4 compressor. I'm thinking maybe I can use a set of 350 brackets if I can find a 350 that has the newer model compressor. How can I find out if these exist?
