Looked at a 2017. 2500 chevy diesel today saw this sticker on the center post between the doors on the drivers side..
Well, the 17-digit standardized VIN number format (post 1982) says ..... - the first digit represents the "Country of Origin" and a '1' means USA ('2' means Canada), but, if that possibly involved a "incomplete vehicle", like say a truck or van cab & chassis only (intended to be completed by a subsequent coach builder or upfitter, etc.), the original sticker would represent the orig. build info for that state of "incompleteness" and would be sent to another manufacturer for completion of, say, adding a commercial body to add to or complete the build, then usually add a supplemental manufacturing label describing what modifications were done and how those modifications effect the GVWR, etc., of the original "incomplete" built vehicle. If any builder or upfitter changes/adds to the vehicle, it is required to certify via the sticker what the new GVWR and tire/ax;e load data is when those changes are completed; - the second digit represents the manufacturing company and 'G' represents GM ('F' represents Ford, and so on); - the third digit represents the division of the vehicle manufacturer, here, 'C' means Chevrolet. If I run this VIN through a verification system, here are the results: VINassistâ„¢ Enter or verify VIN, then click SUBMIT. VIN: 1GC1KWEYXJF176424 1 Country of Origin UNITED STATES OF AMERICA G Manufacturer CHEV GENERAL MOTORS C Vehicle Type CHEVROLET TRUCK 1 Line/Cab Type,GVWR,Brakes CLASS H-4DR CREW CAB-UTILITY-HYDBRK KW Series CHEVROLET SILVERADO LTZ 4X4 2500 E Restraint System MAN BLTS DR&PS FRT/ FRT ST SD/ RF SD Y Engine 6.6L V8 DI TRB DRMX DSL GEN 5 VAR 1 X Check Digit Check Digit Matches J Year 2018 F Plant FLINT, MI 176424 Serial Number Sequence in Range VIN indicates a 2018 GENERAL MOTORS CHEVROLET SILVERADO LTZ 4X4 2500
But, it also says "Manufactured by: CHRYSLER", so somehow, the importation action crossed a line into something more ... likely a regulatory definition of some kind. I wonder if GM used a network run by or owned by Chrysler to transport or distribute or do something else with the vehicle.
Thanks Erik When I first saw that sticker. My first thought was another Skum bag stinking fiat owned product. Just a sticker made by some flyby knight trucking company
