Yea, that's an ouch. I've moved to using Mitch's caps on my cars. Side by side I just cannot tell the difference but with the cost savings and the locking backer plate I know that I'm not going to lose something on the way to a show in one of these Michigan potholes.......
Last set of 5 NOS ones finished at a bit over 500.00 if I remember correctly :Dou:

  4. Steve, I'm also using Mitch's caps on my 68. I love 'em, they look fantastic!

If this style NOS cap is going for $100/ea on ebay, so be it, it doesn't bother me. But to ask for that as an opening bid? I call that greed. I can see putting your asking price as an opening bid on a nice Buick, but this is parts, and stuff that is repro'd beautifully to boot! I don't understand this either. I've read the repros are perfectly acceptable for a concours car too.

Original parts are typically better quality than reproductions.

I thought the same thing. Personally, if I could get 4 repros for the same or less..........., but, some people demand NOS I guess. :Do No:

  7. That may be true in general. I haven't seen original ribbed style caps, but I have been told by guys with originals AND Mitch's 68 repros, that Mitch's are better than GM made them. I personally do not see any flaws in my repro caps. The quality is excellent. And only $37.50 each.

I have seen NOS and also Mitch's. I really don't see a difference unless you have a 100 point car and the #'s make the difference.
The 68 LeSabre has them and my buddies 68 has NOS and we both see no difference .
    My opinion .........:Smarty: :TU:

    Hmmmm......... 37.50 each . :Dou: 68 LeSabre 50.00 each

I have original and center caps made by Mitch. The chrome plating on Mitch's caps is better (brighter). Other than that the only way I could tell them apart was that the three tri-shields on Mitch's cap have slightly less detail (I mean very, very slight) than the originals. I am going to remove my original caps and put a set of Mitch's caps on (with the locking backs) so I don't have to worry about them being stolen. Mitch's repro caps are A1 in quality.

I sold a set of 3 NOS center caps on e-bay about 6 months ago, I set the starting bid at $125 and the final bid price went to $475 :eek2: Some people just have to have NOS....... I have also paid through the nose for some parts that I "just had to have", so it works both ways...

  12. I believe Duane has stated that the #'s on these caps are irrelevant for a concours car. Judges don't pull off caps to check part #'s.

I imagine Mitch has to make smaller runs of the big car caps.

David I'd think it's because they are a bit bigger and in less demand than the A body Buicks.
Still a good price and a great value ..:TU:
