my best friend had just got a 95 saturn for graduation, n i was always told that when u turn on the A/C, that u loose power, but when he turned it on, the rpm's had dropped from 1-200 rpm, and thats only in a maybe 2-2.2 L??? (dont know it exactly), i would hate to see it with my 72 riviera, but just 2 weeks ago we gutted the A/C. me restoring it has been nicknamed "Project 495", the only way to keep cool in the summer is 4 windows down while going 95 mph

    a/c vs rpms

it takes power to drive the a/c pump , so yes u lose horsepower to the drive train . the rps do drop but usually the computer will compensate fo the rpm loss by upping the idle level , if the car is at idle .
i too prefer the windows down with that natural high speed flow through a/c .
