My parents have a 1999 Chevy Suburban 1500 2wd with the 350 and auto trans (200K + total milage i think)
It's on its 2nd trans (1st trans went out at 100k) the 2nd trans is just about at 100k as well (4L60-e I'm think).

It doesn't get any heavy usage, they don't tow with it and it gets mostly highway milage. My dad's always been super at getting fluids changed when they needed to.
Any reason this trans should go out at 100k too, or should they expect a little more out of it?

    hi:

my 2 cents - since I also had a '99 Suburban 4WD but otherwise very similar to yours, and the tranny was rebuilt at about 110K - is that you need to remember that Subs are pretty heavy vehicles. If you drive in regular city / freeway traffic, you're really putting the tranny through its paces to get all that weight up to speed with traffic flow - which does produce some wear & tear.
The same tranny in a mid-size or even larger car will likely last longer, simply because it doesn't have to deal with all the weight of a Sub.

    cheers, Ray

My last truck, a `96 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 had 263,000 miles on it when I sold it and it still had the original transmission, never rebuilt, still worked perfectly, and I pulled a car hauler trailer quite often. I suspect it was because I changed the fluid and filter once a year regardless of how many miles I put on it.
