starting early '97 i think , a decent series of 10-12 articles (?) on a nailhead for a street rod . from junkyard right through to switch tranny info ( oct'97 #10 ) and dyno testing ( aug'97 #8 ) . friend of mine is cleaning out his old mags and saving the nailhead ones for me . willing to make copies and mail them out if not available on internet etc . i think i have about 7-8 sets of the articles . also posted a note in the auto tranny section . maybe BPG could get permission and run the info in their mag ? del

    Del,

I can help you out doing this, or even do it for you. :TU:

Only thing I need is your web host address and the password, but you can better PM me about this when you have all the paper work scanned and ready. Any idea how big your own private web space is ? 20 MB is common, but that wil be enough to show the articles online.

bm : when i first glanced over the dyno results i too could not understand the seemingly low results . but the original factory ratings ( especially during the horsepower war years ) were usually inflated and magazines back then did nothing but add to the confusion with known sleeper test cars and inaccurate slipshod dyno testing . their dyno results and dyno facility sounded pretty solid after reading the explanation and comparison results with the stroked small block chevy from the same facility . and they were , after all , after a sane , solid , dependable combo not a peaky tempermental coolant blower and i doubt the 3-deuce set-up helped . my guess would be that the oem motor on the new dyno might only make 200-250 hp . but my main reason for posting this was the pretty good explanations and steps involved that are kinda unique to the nailhead and may be old hat to some but may help out a newcomer and keep them outa' hot water and maybe encourage someone to try out that pretty and solid old-tech motor . personally i always thought that they shoulda used that shortblock for the basis for the 400-455 design , just use a different head setup and maybe play around a little with piston-rod combo's etc . there were some good tips thrown in there . del

Del-about using the nailhead short block as a basis for the new design engine-I couldn't agree more...and with the hindsight of the many years with the 400-430-455, I think anyone would...
