Not sure if this is the right forum but can't find a better match.... I've been searching for a while (after losing an ebay bid) for trunk valence trim (and trunk lip trim) for my '66 Special Deluxe. It is a 2 piece set vs. the 1 piece for Skylarks. I am also missing the 3 "vents" on the passenger fender. After getting snipped on ebay, I have been very unsuccessful finding the trunk valence trim (or fender trim). I have one of these pieces but even it is pretty banged up. I read somewhere that the Special deluxe had trim unique only to that vehicle and am starting to give up hope on finding these pieces (thanks to the guys who painted the car for the previous owner and either misplaced or damaged the original trim) as they did not make many of them. Is this true for this vehicle??? I have been looking at possibly replacing the original valence trim with some from a Skylark as these are more available and would like to know if this would be compatible with the tail light setup on the Special (which appears to be the same)??? not sure if they vary from the Skylark. In hopes of keeping my vehicle all original, does anyone know who would be able to help me locate these pieces??? My car also came with "spear" shaped trim located on the rear quarter panel body line which I still have but need to be repaired (if this helps recognizing the trim package my car came with). Sorry for all the questions and I appreciate any help. I've been researching for a while and can't come up with any answers. Thanks!!!!
Welcome! This is the right place to ask. I will try and check my manuals when I get home, but keep replying TTT to your original post if no response. this will allow your post go To The Top. BTW 66 is where is it at! Scott
Thanks Scott. Which manuals are you referring to? I guess I need to invest in some more. Thanks, Kevin
Hi Kevin, I checked my '66 Buick parts book for the official terminology.... The trim between the tailights is called 'Rear end panel molding'. On a Skylark, it is a wide, ribbed, pot metal piece. The plain Special had no molding. The Special Deluxe used two thin stainless steel trim strips referred to as the 'upper rear end panel molding' and the 'lower rear end panel molding'. The Skylark GS also used the two thin moldings, same as the Special Deluxe. Marxjunk and 'GS Spoken Here' are 2 board members with a good supply of 1966 parts.
Re: 1966 Skylark vs. Special Deluxe Trim Thanks Walt, this is very helpful. I was looking at some trim for a '66 Skylark on ebay but looks like it won't work on my special because of where the clip holes are located. I'll have to keep looking Kevin
Here are some pics of the rear with the missing trunk lip and valence. Also a pic of the trim I'm missing for the passenger side fender. Driver side shown.
Kevin, I just saw the PM that you sent me & I'll reply to your email address. BTW, I do have the fender trim pieces in VG condition. Steve
Mark has the trim strips you are looking for. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?p=1871949&posted=1#post1871949

Not sure if these are what you are looking for - OEM driver quality (due only to pitting; mounting stems are all intact). I have one of the pieces of tail chrome somewhere but not sure if it is the top or bottom piece. The trim parts you see in the photos (including the "special" script) is $20.00 plus $12.00 shipping. "Nice and cheap" here and nothing that a good chrome shop could not restore! If nothing else, some of the macro photos of the part numbers might be useful for other members. "I sell OEM parts cheaper than most" but cannot make the shipping cheaper. I might even find the mounting nuts for these that I will throw in IF I can find them. Alan R.
