OK guys got a problem that I can't run down. The car is a 92 Regal GS with almost all the options. The volt gauge stays at about 15-16 normally. The last few days I will be driving along and It will develop a bad discharge(the guage dips to 12) it lasts a few seconds and goes back to normal. This happens with lights, heater etc on or off. It may do it 10 times in 15 minutes or maybe not at all. I thought it was a regulator problem so I removed the alternator and replaced it with a reman unit that was bench tested at the parts store before installation. Same problem. Installed a new battery, thought it may be starting to go bad as it was 5 years old, still the same. reinstalled original alternator, no change. Somebody tell me something else to look for as I am selling the car soon and don't want to sell it this way. I also checked the wiring for visable splits, cracks, loose connections etc, all looks good. This car has never been messed with, no extra radios,cd's etc wired in. What now?

Did you ever think it might be the voltmeter gauge itself? Try putting a good meter on it, and check voltage with the car running right at the battery. You may not have a problem at all.

Take reading right at the rear of the alternator, then the battery. .3-.5 voltage drop is acceptable. Anymore means there is a wiring problem.
