Re: 9 3/8" posi and 3.91 gears for 61-62-63 Buick full size Electra,LeSabre,Invicta,W just out of curiosity, is that a Salisbury or Hotchkiss type of rear end assembly?? local yard is parting / selling a 65 convertible, has a huge rear under it, with drop out center section - hotchkiss type. am going to guess earlier sixties Buick full size - pre 65 used an X frame similar to the 58 - 64 Chevrolet type.

The '63 unit is 30 spline, and '61 and '62 unit is 33 spline. And good luck finding a gear set, something that low is beyond rare! :beer

I have two and a friend has two plus i think i know of one more out there. I will consider selling one of my sets...... Too bad we can't find the 4.45's that i sold to someone here on V8.......those were the drag racing gears......got them from Kenne-Bell in '75 and TOPCAT was a stop light TERROR in Grand Rapids Michigan the next couple years while i went to Technician's school :grin: Peace WildBill

Heck, the car is going on 52 yrs old, so just the rate of how many have been scrapped over the years limits the ammount of parts left available, the average age of people who own/have owned these cars,gotten out of the old car hobby is of the older crowd. You'd have to rotate a drum and count the number of rotations of the driveshaft per rotation of the drum. That's also the easiest way to check for a posi. I'd suspect the LeSabre has 3.23's, or maybe 2.78's.

Little easier to find than the 3.90's/91's or the 4.45's. You could make a spacer that's about 1/4" thick. Then you need longer ring gear bolts to convert 3.23 & back posi unit's.
