Hello all. I have an Edelbrock 850 q-jet, 6 months old. It was working like a new car for a while, electric choke was kicking butt and the car ran great. It slowly started to run crappy. I could not get the choke adjusted correctly, so I took the choke off. It runs really rich & crappy. I have played with the idle adjustment screws like crazy. Any advice?
    Thanx.

I'm not a carburetion expert, but I will try to help. Check the float level.........the needle and seat may be leaking..........also make sure the metering system is working. I've never had one of those carbs but I think they use metering rods........make sure they are getting vacuum. Sometimes the wrong base gasket can also cause problems. :bglasses:

I'll agree with nailheadina67, sounds like your float is soaking up gas and overfilling the bowl.

But first, make SURE your ignition system is good! You wouldn't be anywhere the first to be fooled by a weak ignition into thinking it's the carb.

Been there, done that, probably do it again!

That's easy to check.............pull off a vacuum hose, and if it speeds up drastically, it's running too rich. It's normal to speed up a little and roughen up, but huge increase in rpm's would indicate a rich condition.

Does it make black smoke? Also, see if the plugs are black. :bglasses:

OK guys (I was away from the computer for a bit). I will check the float. If I find I can't figure it out, I'll be back asking where the heck I am.
    Thanx again.
