    Howdy,

What kind of rearend would an 85 Lesabre have and/or what would fit? I was thinking that maybe the disc rear out of an '77 Riviera might fit but I don't know. Also is it a B-body or an E-body or what? Got a crazy idea for a street sleeper but want to make sure this isn't going to be an left arm, right leg, and blood of first born type of project with getting parts that will hold up and make it perform better.

    thanks,

:TU: I think the 85 lesabre is one of the coolest looking new (relatively speaking) buicks out there, so I'm inclined to throw my 2 cents in....

I really don't know (I'm just thinking out loud), but wouldn't a caprice have the same rear? I would think a caprice wagon might be a cheap place to look for a posi? However, I don't know what size rear this is or how strong it would be... :Do No:

There was a dark blue 2dr 85 crusing my hometown about 5-7 years ago with a 455 in it. Cool car.

The 85 LeSabre is, I believe, a B body like the Caprice, Olds 88, Parisienne, etc. Your car may have the 7.5, 10 bolt rear, but it probably has the more robust 8.5 inch, 10 bolt. This is the same rear center section as the GN, so the 8.5 can take plenty of abuse. If you are stuck with an open 8.5, you could add a Lock Right type of locker without special tools. I took this path with my GN with good results so far. It just replaces the side gears in the open diff. In any case, I think that these B bodies are perfect street machine material. They are not much heavier than the G bodies and will accept any combo of GM engine and drivetrain you can imagine. Also, the few hundred extra pounds is offset by the longer wheelbase, and these cars will hook in wet grass, as the weight distribution is great with plenty of rear overhang. Thanks, Rudy E.

    G87 means 8.5

the lesabre in the 80s is a b body, and if you look in the trunk ( if its like mine its on the inside lid) at the rpo # look for G87 or G89. G87 means it has a 8.5 and the G89 means 7.5.

Correct, the Buick LeSabre is a B body.

Check out this link, it's one awesome 84 LeSabre. It might be just like the car you're thinking of. Back in January of this year when I was thinking of selling my car, I found this guy on the internet and his car changed my mind. Enjoy!
