I have just bought a 82 Regal. The stock 3.2 v6 is still in it and runs good. My problem is...I like any other Buick fan want my car to proform.:Brow: I have a 305 that I can put in it or I can stay with the v6. The 305 is going to take about 800 bucks and alot of time to drop. With the money I will spend on the v8 should I just focus on the v6. What can I do to the v6 to build it up and what kind of proformance can I get out of it? I would like to stick with a buick motor. What Buick 350 motors well drop into the regal without wiring problems? I can get a 71 buick 350 but I dont know what problems I would run into.

    Thanks
    steve

    regal

hi steve cant remember for sure, does your 3.2 have distributer in the front of engine?any buick 350 with distributer in the front of engine should bolt in as long as your v6 has a dist in the front, just use the v6 engine mounts on frame and v6 mounts on 350 engine ,but i suggest using poly turbo v6 motor mounts, still same setup but the v6 mount flex alot,i have a 79 and 83 regal with 350 buick engines and everything works well and you dont have to change trans if you set up right but if you have a 200 with the word metric on the pan i would dump for a 350 trans which will fit the same as 200 just add a vacuum line. or you could use the 305 just just "clam shell"mounts off of most chevy v8 engines from a camero ,monte, firebird, caprice body styles and buy new mounts for a monte carlo of your year car, only drawback is trans bellhousing is more than likely different so you might have to get a trans too. if you want power out of the v6 i would say get a carb turbo setup from a 78-to 83 regal and some montes.i suggest if you go with a turbo v6 you atleast get a 3.8 or 4.1(mostly in rear drive caddys with v6) the 3.2 is small and the bigger the better.the 71 eng could be a weekend drop in except exhaust and finding a accel cable bracket,i have used the v6 ones with some cutting down as they sit too hi and the 72 carb has a ball stud instead of that funny c clip thing, but holley has a bolt in stud for holleys which i used after drilling out ballstud on my carb ,just no detent cable(manuelly shift passing gear)you can use the v6 pulleys and bracket for ps and alt or stock 350 brackets but ac compressor might not fit with 71 brackets.you will need a bigger radiator and holddown(get one from monte or cutlass with v8)i have ecletric fans so im not sure of fan shrouds fiting, getting a hei dist would help as the points dist would burn up points alot do to point only need 8 to 9 volts and the car would have a resistor somewhere in it and you car the hei takes a straight 12 volt and burn points often enuff to be annoying , hope this helps it can be a easy swap if you have enuff info,i found this stuff out just by trying to stuff one in and found what works out for me good luck andy

    Thanks

Andy thanks you for your help it has cleared up alot. The car has a 350 turbo trans. I talked to a guy about droping the 71 350. He said I might run into computer problems?!? What do you think? Yes the V6 has the distrubtor in the front. Could you give me some more info on the 71? I think I am going to go that route but I am not that experinced in droping motors. I figured the 71 will drop without problems the trans should bolt up and the mounts will be fine. I am just worried about the little things that turn a weekend drop into a hair pulling disaster. But I guess thats all a part of it.

    Thanks
    Steve

    computer problems

i would disconnect computer it wont work on a v8 very well, and use the v6 mounts as i had a problem with the 350 engine mounts pushing the right valve cover into ac/heater box and cracking it. the only problem you will have is fiting exhaust pipes.you might be able to use the 71 crossover if the engine has one and cram the convertor over a bit to use stock exhaust for now . what kind of info you want on 71 engine? i tryed to give you as much of the little hangups as i found doing my engine . you will have to stretch the starter wires abit but everything can follow the setup as the v6 was and all your gauge or dash lite sendersfrom the v6 can be used in v8 .use use 71 hoses and you will need a bigger radiator if you have any more questions i will give you any help i can andy:TU:
