    norwegianbuick 81 Regal 350

This is my first thread with this forum, and I just wanted to say hi to everyone. This looks like a great site..

Oh yeah, and I live in Norway.. Some of you might find that interesting.. For those of you that didn't know (probably all of you  ), Norway has the highest concentration of American cars outside of America, and I live in Halden, a town highly recognized for its auto culture.. There are quite a few GSXs, Rivieras and Wildcats amongst others cruising around town.

However, I just bought myself a goodlooking 81' Regal Coupe the other day, and I need some help. Unfortunately it has the crappiest gas V8 ever, the 265. It's completely dull and is not in pristine condish either, so it's coming out. As is the tranny, which I presume is the TH200?

The seller told me this is a Chevy engine, would any of you know about that? I was just wondering if that means the engine mounts are for a Chevy V8 or still for a Buick? The Chevys are easier to come by, but a Buick would certainly be the best. The 455's are quite commonly for sale over here, but as gas is $8 a gallon (yup! :() I figured a 350 would be the best..

I know many of you have all the answers I need.. Any help, input or opinions will be very much appreciated, thanks! :beer

The frames on all G-bodies (78-88 Monte, Cutlass, Regal...) all are drilled for all the engines offered, but you will have the motor and frame mounts for a SBC no an SBB. If you are really concerned about gas, you might want to try an LC2 Turbo V6 offered in the 86-87 Turbo Regals or its "hotair" predicessor found in 84-85 Turbo Regals. I don't think the Buick 350 was ever offered in the G-body but the same thing that lets me put a Turbo6 in a 66 Skylark lets you put the 350 in the G-body, V6 frame and motor mounts are the same I am pretty sure. Pitch the tranny, get yourself a BOP pattern TH350, bolts right in, or get an aftermarket crossmember (84-88 G-bodies have slightly different frames with mounting possitions for the TH200-4R and TH400) and go for a TH400 though for a SBB I'd stick with the TH350 and gain some efficiency though be sure to have it well prepared. You can also go with a TH200-4R for overdrive but they are more pricey and require the same crossmember as the TH400. My Uncle lives in Norway somewhere, working Phillips offshore North Sea rigs, loves it there.

    Hope this helps,

The 265 is a Pontiac engine. And it is the crappiest gas V-8 ever built period!!!

I think it would help if you could tell us what the car is going to be used for, what you would like to see, and what kind of budget you are looking at. The 265 chevy came out in the mid 50's. If you go to http//www.nastyz28.com/sbcmenu.html it is a great info site and you can determine what you have. Floyd is also right pontiac made a 265 about 1958. Good Luck

Actually, the 265 Pontiac was 1980-1981. It is the same block size as the Pontiac 301. Its different inside since the Pontiac engineers actually removed a main bearing! Yep, only four. This turd was actually given to Buick from Pontiac since Buick quit producing V-8s of there own at that time. It was to be considered a Buick engine, but that never really took. 99% of them seized up, and most folks can't even discuss this engine without getting ill. Actually, I think I'm gonna hurl now..............................

Only the best for Buick :TU: Good thing GM takes care of its founding brand. At least they haven't killed it off...yet
