Is the limited slip swap pretty straightforward in the mid-80's V8 Regals? Do you need a whole posi diff for swap, or just exchange carriers/internals/etc. new replacement parts available or raid junkyards?

considering getting a cheap 83-84 and putting in a 430/trans.

You can go either with swapping the complete rear end out with a 8.5 out of a GN or T type (if you go this way get the drive shaft as the 8.5 takes a shorter one) or you can replace the center section (carrier) with a posi one like out of a S-10 (if you go this route count the splines) and use your orginal axles. I have done both with no problems.

What year & code S-10 should I look for to swap in that posi chunk? This is the answer to my problem right now......thanks.

I used a 80's (year) posi center section out of a S-10 but I don't know what year/code. I didn't care what year it was, I just counted the splines to make sure I could use my axles and went from there. The reason I keep saying count the splines is you don't know what the previous owner may have swapped into there S-10. Don't hold me to this but I think the Regal axle splines or 26 and a late model 7.5 (7.625) have 28 splines).
