Anyone know if a '76 Cadillac 800cfm Quadrajet will bolt up to a 401 stock intake? Will I have linkage problems?

I'm just trying to milk a little more out of the old '65 Wildcat. I don't want to go 2x4 (yet!). Any suggestions as to other setups is appreciated. I want to stay as close to original as possible.

The 6x2 looks like a linkage and "balancing" nightmare.

    Thanks

    Rick

No, it won't bolt up. Your 65 has the smaller AFB/4-jet type pattern, so the Q-jet will require an adapter.

You can bolt up a Q-jet to a 66 nailhead intake, the only year that will work. 66 came with Q-jet as orig equipment. It's easy to tell the 66 intake as it has the small primaries and much larger secondaries hole openings that correspond to the Q-jet.

Your 65 intake has four equal size holes.

Thanks. You saved me time and money. ...so what carb should I upgrade to, or is this a carb & intake change?

Well, there's always the 750 cfm AFB carbs, Carter #9755 and Edelbrock #1407. But, ....., the holes in the squarebore intakes (like yours) are smaller than the secondaries on the 750's. So to take full advantage, you would want to have them milled open by a machine shop. The 800 cfm AFB sold by Edelbrock has both primaries and secondaries bigger than the manifold bores.

Or keep looking out for a 66 QJet (spreadbore) intake manifold. They show up from time to time in the parts for sale on the Buick boards, and on EBay. I prefer the 800 cfm QJets that are on 71-74 Buick 455s myself.
